About Meridian International Center

Meridian International Center is a non-profit organization that promotes international understanding through the exchange of people, ideas, and the arts. Established in 1960 and headquartered in Washington, DC, Meridian offers a wide array of outreach, exchange, and arts programs. We promote dialogue among people of all ages about global issues, connect professionals from different countries and enrich the cultural perspectives of audiences across the United States and abroad. The GlobalConnect Division was established in 2001 to pursue new business opportunities for the organization. Most of our projects involve the development and implementation of exchange programs for professionals and university and high-school students, sponsored by U.S. embassies around the world, U.S. Government agencies and private-sector firms. Our programs cover a wide array of issues and we continually develop grant proposals (solicited and unsolicited) for government agencies and foundations. The Global Programs Intern will have the unique opportunity to work with several program teams across the GlobalConnect Division. The Intern will contribute to a wide range of exchange programs and global leadership development initiatives that touch several topic areas and geographic regions and are sponsored by both government and private sector stakeholders. Main Duties and Responsibilities: Preparing program books and other welcome materials Conducting research on professional resources Providing on-the-ground support for DC-based program components Reconciling financial accounts, contacting vendors for logistical arrangements Assisting in pre-program surveys and post-program follow-up Other tasks as assigned Desired Skills/Qualifications: Working toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree focused on international relations, political science, NGO management or related field Experience working with diverse cultures and languages Interest and familiarity with online research tools; interest in global issues and international affairs Computer proficiency in Windows based applications including Microsoft Word and Excel is mandatory Knowledge of general office procedures Strong ability to multi-task and collaborate effectively with a team Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment Strong organizational and writing skills Commitment: We are looking for an intern that will commit to at least 32-40 hours per week starting April/May 2020. Compensation: This internship is unpaid, however, Meridian will provide a $10/day transportation stipend. Experience Outcome: This internship is a great opportunity to meet a variety of international visitors and to work in a dynamic environment. The Meridian staff is a diverse group of people who have lived, worked, and studied around the world. Additionally, Interns will have access to all that Meridian has to offer, including professional development seminars and exposure to art and education programs that engage a wide range of stakeholders on a variety of global issues.
