About the Role We are looking for a bright, committed and hardworking Paralegal to join the VIC Abuse Law practice based out of our Melbourne CBD office. The successful candidate will need to possess the ability to manage a high workload whilst sustaining a high standard and be practical and proactive in assisting the team. Strong written communication and research skills will also be vital. More importantly, the ability to empathise and manage our clients will be a necessity. Experience in a legal environment is also highly desirable. The role is offered on a full-time, permanent basis and would suit either a student with experience in Abuse Law, or a seasoned professional who is looking to accelerate their career in our great firm. Maurice Blackburn has a long history of practising in Abuse Law, advocating on behalf of survivors of childhood sexual abuse. On the back of the removal of limitation periods and other law reform recommended by the Royal Commission into Institutionalised Responses to Childhood Sexual Abuse, our practice is in a period of accelerated growth and we are seeking a motivated and driven individual to work in our practice. This is a unique opportunity to establish credentials and expertise in a developing area of common law. Your case could be the leading case. Key Responsibilities: Drafting of legal and client correspondence; Attendance at client interviews and summarising notes; Legal research; Preparation of chronologies; Calculation of special damages; Assistance with business development activities; Communication with clients as required; and All other general duties and administrative tasks as required. Skills & experience we’re looking for: An understanding of our client base and the ability to display empathy and compassion; Experience working in Abuse Law (desirable) or Personal Injuries Law; Capability to conduct complex legal research; Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team; and High attention to detail.
