Lecturer in Theatre Studies Position Purpose To provide quality teaching, research and academic citizenship in the area of Theatre Studies, specialising in applied theatre, script writing and performance. Department: School of English and Media Studies Location: Manawatū Reports to: Head of School Responsible for: Teaching, research and academic citizenship. Delegations: N/A Job Title: Lecturer in Theatre Studies Key relationships: Internal Staff and students involved in Theatre Studies and Expressive Arts courses; contributions to the Arts on Wednesdays programme, Summer Shakespeare, and similar on- or off-campus School events. External Manawatū arts and community agencies including Square Edge, Palmerston North City Council, Centrepoint, and festival directors. Through a combination of hands- on skills and theoretical inquiry, our students develop critical media literacy, creative insight, and versatility in writing, production, performance and scripting. Understand how what we do contributes to the objectives of the University. 2 Accountabilities Teaching and * Undertake effective undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, in supervision both face-to-face and distance modes. Develop and maintain courses and areas of curriculum appropriate to local needs but consistent with international standards. Coordinate and administer courses effectively. Supervise the research activities of undergraduate and postgraduate students (including doctoral candidates) as required. Undertake continuing professional development. Research * Undertake an active, appropriate and viable personal research programme or participate in team-based research in areas relevant to this appointment. Publish papers in academic journals or other scholarly works, and/or engage in creative research. Present research and act as a discussant at academic conferences. Generate research funding. Maintain a personal PBRF (Performance Based Research fund) Evidence Portfolio. Service to the * Participate in community service activities that further advance the community profession or field and which are consistent with the University’s Charter and Strategic Plan. Assist the School to develop an environment which gives effect to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi. University * Serve productively on University, College and/or School committees. responsibilities * Ensure the observance of University policy and codes of practice in all teaching, research, community service and administrative practices. Contribute to the development of a School working environment of teamwork and cooperation. Any other duties as directed by the Head of School, as consistent with this position. 3 Qualifications and Experience Qualifications: An advanced qualification (PhD strongly preferred) in Theatre Studies or related area. Experience: Demonstrable teaching experience at appropriate University levels and research expertise in appropriate subject areas. Capabilities: Competence in all areas of professional activity. Essential * A strong sense of professionalism. Suitable skills in time management. Strong interpersonal skills. The ability to maintain good collegial relationships, and a willingness to engage in team-work. The capacity to lead and mentor tutors (teaching assistants) in the delivery of courses.
