DIRECTOR OF FINANCE & ACCOUNTING/GENERAL AFFAIRS Job Purpose: The Director of Finance & Accounting/General Affairs is responsible for overseeing the General Accounting and Financial Reporting functions and the financial services area including, G/L, A/R and A/P. This position is responsible for maintaining a system of internal controls that will ensure that the company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial policies and procedures. Duties and Responsibilities: Supervision, Mentoring & Development: Provide mentoring, coaching, career development skill set transformation and line management leadership to the accounting department. Ensure that each area of responsibility within Finance and Accounting and General Affairs has a capable back up person designated. Exercise a leadership role in departmental and interdepartmental meetings and encourage constructive discussion and flow of idea sharing. Also ensure visibility and positive representation of the Finance and Accounting contributions. Handle escalated Accounting/Finance service issues. Ensure incorporation of technology and automation into business processes when cost and benefit warrant doing so. Oversee development of the Accounting budget, approve accounting expenses, drive cost control. Take responsibility and accountability for a team of 6 within Accounting, Finance and General Affairs. Manage performance and foster collaboration; ensure the training, development and morale of the Finance and Accounting group. Regularly ensure that the accounting department is staffed with qualified financial personnel capable of meeting the objectives and responsibilities noted above. Responsible for continued development of staff. Recommend and document specific development plans, including training needs, as required for department staff. Finance & Accounting: Oversee the general accounting function; which includes inter-company accounting, cash management/reconciliation, financial reporting and balance sheet management and M/Q/YE close. Accountable for ensuring that policies and procedures (internal controls) are in place to provide reasonable assurance that the company assets are protected. Ensure that company financial records and reports, under responsibility, are maintained and compliant with company policies and directives and U.S. GAAP. Responsible for reviewing monthly/quarterly financial statements and other documents to ensure this compliance. Supervise the completion of Federal and State tax reporting requirements (including income, property, sales and use, and other local taxes), insurance reports and other reports required by government regulation. Also, assist Corporate Tax and Treasury in dealing with tax related issues and meeting reporting requirements. Ensure that the online accounting systems operate as required. Involved in validating/designing and suggested changes to ensure accounting requirements continue to be met. Engage and work closely with CPA firms, actuaries, and consultants to assure timely and cost effective delivery of services in support of audits, tax filings, transfer pricing studies, and other required disclosures. Coordinate work related to both internal and external audits in the periodic review of company financial records. Further responsible for the implementation of agreed upon recommendations, related to areas of responsibility, resulting from the audit findings. Work closely with HR to support their needs for W-2 inclusion requirements for expatriates, monitoring healthcare costs, developing census data, and overseeing the SERP program. General Affairs: Directly handle office facility lease negotiations; analyze and predict needs, and identify opportunities to add value and mitigate expense. Oversee general affairs activities which include office security and overall facilities management. Manage relationships with landlords and vendors who provide key facility related services. Qualifications: Education: Bachelors' degree in Accounting or Finance Work Experience: 10 years relevant experience in a professional corporate work environment; 4+ years with a CPA firm preferred. Minimum of 5 years' experience managing finance function(s) of a similar scope. Technical Functional: Federal and State consolidation tax return preparation experience for groups of a similar scope. Direct experience with cash management best practices. Advanced Excel skills and Microsoft Office experience. Communication/Interpersonal Skills: Highly refined verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to vary communication style based on audience. Ability to work with others and communicate effectively and professionally in a multi-national environment. Proven ability to break down complex Financial terms and processes to ensure thorough understanding is imperative. Strong service orientation, desire to satisfy internal and external customers. Excellent demonstrated leadership skills are mandatory. Problem Solving/Decision Making: Demonstrated ability in exercising initiative and excellent judgement. Ability to understand complicated concepts and use systems and data to solve and prevent problems. Demonstrated experience in analyzing business performance and developing financial plans to solve for areas of concern. Self-Management: Flexibility to perform effectively with frequent workload changes and competing demands and under conditions of fluctuating workload. Ability to perform with frequent interruptions and/or distractions. Demonstrated ability to set priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities and ability to prioritize assignments to complete work in a timely manner. Ability to maintain the highly confidential information. Demonstrated ability to persuade and lead.
