Knauf Insulation North America was founded in 1978 as Knauf Fiber Glass when the Knauf family purchased an existing fiberglass production facility in Shelbyville, Indiana. As an already well-established building material manufacturer in Europe, Knauf began an ambitious renovation program to modernize the plant and increase its capacity. The North American company started with 450 employees in 1978 and has since grown to over 1,900 people in multiple facilities across the United States. Knauf is a family company founded in 1932 by the brothers Karl and Dr. Alfons N. Knauf. Today, their sons steer the success of the corporation's many building materials enterprises in close coordination with the family. From its beginnings in gypsum processing over in Germany, Knauf has expanded and diversified. It is now a multinational corporation delivering a wide variety of insulation materials and many other building products.. At Knauf Insulation we have always been defined by sustainability. Our products save energy, cut emissions and are designed to make sure buildings are good for the environment and keep people healthy, safe and well.
