Posting Template Posting Template Position Title Instructor, Environmental Monitoring (Term) Required Qualifications The successful candidate will have a minimum of a B.Sc. in an Environment-related discipline and experience with environmental monitoring. Good Indigenous knowledge and having worked with an Indigenous community are assets. Must be capable of working on the land and in remote locations in a variety of weather conditions. Prior post-secondary teaching experience is an asset. Preference will be given to someone with ties to Fort McMurray and the Peace –Athabasca Delta region. Preferred Qualifications Department Indigenous Education Job Description Keyano College requires an Environmental Monitoring Instructor to instruct in the Community-Based Environmental Monitoring Certificate program in Fort McMurray. This program offers a unique curriculum delivery based on a four-season model consistent with the worldview of the Indigenous partners including the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, the Fort Chipewyan Métis Local 125, the Fort McMurray Metis Local 1935, and the Mikisew Cree First Nation. The program offers the braiding of Indigenous knowledge and western science in preparing students to become qualified environmental monitors. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of environmental monitoring from a western science perspective and additional knowledge of Indigenous cultures would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will be responsible for the co-delivery of program curriculum related to environmental monitoring including water and snow, vegetation, wildlife, air, soils, mapping and navigation, and habitat/ecosystems. Program start date is expected to be May/June 2020. The start date for this position will be May 4, 2020. The successful candidate will be required to prepare material for instruction and teaching along with a co-instructor in consultation with the Dean, faculty, and other program partners. Responsibilities include carrying out regularly scheduled instruction, ensuring student awareness of course objectives, defining evaluation techniques, validating learning outcomes, and conducting over 60% of the instruction on the land with practical learning activities. The successful candidate will also be expected to have office hours for student consultation. The work schedule will be flexible dependent upon the final course schedules as determined by the instructor, the Dean, faculty, and program partners.
