TITLE: Assistant Professor Education DEPARTMENT: School of Education and Human Development REPORTS TO: Chair, School of Education and Human Development EFFECTIVE DATE: TBD EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full Time EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: The School of Education and Human Development at Kentucky State University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in Education. Salary and rank will be commensurate with education, professional experiences and academic qualifications. Successful candidates will teach a broad range of courses in education at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Develop and teach courses within the Teacher Education program. Participate in Blackboard training and train cooperating teachers and administrators in Blackboard as needed. Supervise student teachers as required by the Chair of the School of Education and Human Development. Supervise field experience placements as required by the Chair. Reviews assessments of the TEP and recommends changes and modifications to the TEC. Pursue ongoing scholarly and research development through avenues such as: writing projects, conference presentations, speaking engagements, and local church involvement. Participate in ongoing instructional and student assessment efforts, as needed. Keep regular office hours and be generally available to meet with and mentor students. Participate in the recruiting and hiring of additional faculty members within the program (both full-time and adjunct), as needed, under the supervision of the Chair of The School of Education and Human Development. Recruit and supervise work study within the program, under the supervision of the Chair of the School of Education and Human Development. Participate in various campus events such as new student orientation and BRED Days as well as ongoing recruitment efforts. Attend regular faculty and TEC meetings. Develop strategic professional objectives and report them to the Chair on an annual basis. Perform other duties as needed by the Chair of The School of Education and Human Development Advising and mentoring students and overseeing student culminating projects Publishing quality scholarship related to Pre-K-12 teacher education preparation and credentialing in peer-reviewed venues (journals, conferences) Serving the program, the department, the School, and the University in such capacities as needed, appropriate to rank and years of service at KYSU * Engage in research and scholarship consistent with our promotion & tenure guidelines. * Provide innovative program development at the undergraduate and graduate level. Engage in school, campus, university and community activities aligned with the School's mission. QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate degree in education from an accredited institution or a related area is required. * Experience in teaching or working with PK-12 students. * Record of successful teaching and scholarly/creative activities and a clear research agenda. Documented competence in using technology to enhance instruction. Experience in supervision or mentoring pre-service or experienced teachers. Professional experience working with students and families from diverse cultures. Ability to secure external funding support and direct/oversee federally funded programs. Familiarity with CAEP and State Standards. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Health, stamina, and capacity to sustain focused attention on detailed tasks. Health, stamina, and capacity to engage in strenuous physical activities with students and community members indoors and outdoors, individually and in groups. Occasional day travel within Kentucky and infrequent travel outside of Kentucky.
