Kansas Medical Center (KMC) is a fully physician owned 58 inpatient bed hospital that opened in 2006. Our mission is to provide patient centered care through the empowerment of physicians and other care givers enhanced by state of the art technology. Position: Insurance Verification Classification: Non-Exempt Reports to: Admissions/ Scheduling Manager Date Last Reviewed: 04/25/2019 Job Code: 5011 Supervisory Responsibility: Position does not have supervisory responsibilities. Education/Training: High School Diploma (or equivalent) required. Associate’s Degree preferred. Licensure and Certification Requirements: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Experience Required: Two years of experience working in a medical office or hospital admissions/ billing environment preferred. Position Summary: Collaborates with physicians’ offices to perform specialized functions for clinic patients by completing activities related to insurance registration and verification while optimizing workflow and using best practices and standardized operations in order to provide the best possible customer service throughout the process. Ensures that the scheduling process is effectively and efficiently performed in a satisfactory manner. Essential Job Functions: 1. Contacts insurance companies to verify benefits and eligibility for patients and complete the authorization process within established time frames. 2. Reviews insurance verification and identifies and resolves any eligibility discrepancies. Provides ongoing communication regarding discrepancies to the physicians’ offices. 3. Ensures that all insurance demographic is obtained and entered into the system in an accurate and timely manner. 4. Answers incoming calls and emails with information regarding the status of the insurance and benefits verification process. Performs Scheduler responsibilities as needed: 5. Responds to calls regarding availability of surgery times, equipment, anesthesia requirements, lab work order, etc. 6. Ensures that relevant pre-op information is dispersed accordingly. 7. Provides daily schedule to Pre-op, Patient Registrations, OR Manager, Anesthesia, Business Office, and other relevant departments by 2:00 PM the day prior to the scheduled procedure. 8. Provides relief coverage for the Front Desk Receptionist as needed. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly relay and retain information to and from coworkers, doctors, patients, patients’ families, and the public in order to develop and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the community. 5. Work Environment: This position operates in a temperature-controlled work environment. The employee works in a typical hospital or clinical setting. Work environment generally includes minimal risk of exposure to blood/bodily fluids and low exposure to infectious disease. This position does not include occupational risk of exposure to tuberculosis (Category 0). This position includes a moderate risk of exposure to Hepatitis B. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit for long periods of time; regularly required to use hands to handle, grasp, or feel objects, tools, and controls; regularly required to walk or use other means of mobility; occasionally required to reach with hands and arms above head and below waist; and regularly required to use push and pull motion. The employee must occasionally be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques.
