Overview: JENSEN HUGHES Consulting Canada Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer/Architect in Vancouver, British Columbia. The ideal candidate will have experience in the fire protection industry and desire to grow their skills further at JENSEN HUGHES. With a focus in building and life safety code consulting, the candidate will be responsible for the review and implementation of code compliance strategies and will coordinate on all matters with the design team and authorities having jurisdiction. JENSEN HUGHES is a leading fire protection consulting firm providing a range of professional services involving life safety, fire protection, security and mass notification on commercial, institutional and industrial projects for clients worldwide. Responsibilities: Review of designs including evaluating whether the designer has met the owner’s intent based on contract serviceability, maintainability, and operability requirements, that the designer has adhered to all applicable building, fire and life safety codes, and assess whether fire protection systems and components are adequately sized for owner/tenant identified requirements; Provide technical assistance to develop statements of work for projects related to all aspects of the built environment for building owner and stakeholders; Apply fundamental fire and life safety engineering principles to create alternative solutions to design challenges; Conduct building code and egress analyses, fire detection and alarm systems reviews, smoke control systems reviews, and sprinkler and water supply systems reviews, including hydraulic calculations; Perform surveys and/or analyses to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, perform calculations as assigned such as size required means of egress, maximum allowable building area, sprinkler system water supplies and smoke control equipment; Meet client and customer needs and expectations by completing assigned tasks in the time allotted, and effectively communicating with project team members, clients, customers, and others; Compose technical letters and reports to address specific technical concepts as may be needed by assigned tasks. Qualifications: Degree in Engineering or Architecture and at least 3-5+ years of experience. We can hire someone at the mid or more Sr. Level depending on experience. Compensation will be highly competitive. Current possession or ability to obtain P.Eng or Architectural license; Knowledge of British Columbia and National Building and Fire Codes; Ability to work well independently and to interact with other industry professionals, associated trades and industry authorities; Excellent communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills; Ability to pass a general security background check.
