The Integrative Research Support Platform brings together the various research support and operational services across IRRI including the Software Development, Data Management, and Statistical Services cluster (SDDMSS). The SDDMSS will work with Outcome Themes, develop, test and release software applications that translates science into ICT (Information and Communications Technology). Support the standardization, capture, storage and curation of data in centralized and accessible IRRI databases. Recommend and train data capture technologies. Conduct capacity-building workshops and information sessions for customers. The data manager (DM) will be a member of the service provider team supporting data management, client reporting and problem resolution. The DM’s responsibility is to conduct the data management activities on the breeding management system, Breeding4Results(B4R), including the collation, validation, encoding, spot-checking and quality assurance testing, archiving and curation ensuring compliance to IRRI and Platform-specific policies, procedures and guidelines on data management, back up and uploading. Under the general supervision of the senior specialist, the tasks include: collating, compiling, and ensuring high-quality data in databases assisting in the generation of printouts, data reports and documents providing technical and customer support related to data management providing recommendations on the improvements of data management practices and workflows testing B4R system solutions and provide feedback on the development of new and existing features conducting information sessions and training workshops for the capacity building of customers and end-users creating manuals and documentations to be used in training workshops This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines. Roles and Responsibilities Perform routine data management activities (i.e. collating, compiling, validation, encoding, editing and data archiving) ensuring compliance to IRRI, Platform and project-specific policies (i.e. DG Memo 2006-001, Policy on designation of IRRI developed improved germplasm), guidelines and procedures on data management, backup and uploading Serve as a subject matter expert on data management Conduct information sessions and workshops for capacity building Work closely with end users ensuring effective feedback loops and compliance to data management protocols and policies Prepare and update technical documents (e.g. procedures, user’s manual, test reports, charge logs) Write documentation and materials coming from software and databases, such as codes, database tables, and reports Upload data into the database and websites ensuring proper storage for easy access, retrieval and generation of reports Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Data Management, or any related field At least 3 years of relevant work experience Skills Required Mandatory Experience in database administration Proficient in MS Excel and Access Experience in database programming tools Good organizational skills Good analytical skills Preferred Experience using statistical packages Basic understanding in plant breeding IRRI offers a highly extensive employee benefits package inclusive of globally-covered medical insurance, retirement plan, life and accident insurance and other allowances.
