Lengths are marked on the unit tags by the bander operator. Once unit stops you may proceed with wrapping the units. Pull paper down tight and evenly on all four corners, staple one side down, pull tight the other side and then wrap each end. Each end is wrapped by taking one corner and folding it back down the side of the unit, staple twice in the bottom and folding back down and stapling down the side of unit using staple tabs; the same is done to the other side. Watch your fingers! Then staple the bottom of the unit using the target dots for reference points The tag is then glued to, or stapled to the front right corner of the unit. The unit is then moved to outfeed chains of the paper wrap Job Duties Perform pre-startup inspection and cleaning of work area (see below). Operate controls for infeed roll case, jump rolls, infeed chains, outfeed chains, outfeed jump rolls, pneumatic staple gun. Use staple gun with caution as to not staple hands. Making sure to disconnect compressed air supply before servicing. Apply staple tabs on bottom rows and on end of units per diagrams. Cut off excess lath sticking out of the sides of the units using the hammer. Replace miss-pulled or miss-trimmed boards that are in the units. Properly wrap unit in the designated form (see job description). Move unit to outfeed chains using control panel. Reload the pneumatic staple gun after each unit. Disconnect air supply before servicing. Remember that downtime is clean-up time. Keep work area clean and organized. Walkways should be kept clear of debris and clean. Hoses should be coiled and out of the walkways. Supplies should be kept organized in a way that the job can be done effectively and sufficiently. Follow all safety procedures. Wear PPE as required (see below). Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Physical Job Demands Twist upper body. Bend at waist. Frequent bending from an upright to 45º angle or stooping. Walk on uneven surfaces (occasionally). Climb. Occasional stepping over chain and chain runners or stairs. Repetitive use of hands: Grasping - staple gun. Hammer - swinging to brake off excess lath. Bending - pulling paperwrap down over unit and when folding the ends. Squeezing - staple gun trigger. Standing and walking for up to 8 hours while wrapping units with paperwrap. Lift boards – occasionally. Boards can weigh 5-20 lbs. and are 7’-10’ in length. Use of an 8 lb. sledge hammer - occasional. What You Offer High School Diploma/equivalent preferred Prior manufacturing/warehouse/lumber operations experience preferred Excellent attendance record Physical Requirements: Walking, standing, climbing, bending and lifting up to 50 lbs.
