If you want to grow your skills and develop your career, find out more at www.imerys.com The Position Operational Excellence/Health & Safety Field Officer Job Summary JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE The Operational Excellence/Health & Safety Field Officer is to work with and implement best practices as well as lean methodologies across operations in the UK Industrial Hub, namely Ball Clays at Heathfield in Devon and Furzebrook in Dorset as well as Lee Moor Herreschoff Secondary Processing Plant at Lee Moor, Devon. In 2014 Imerys launched an Industrial Improvement program focused on 3 missions: Safety Operational excellence People development. As a Change Agent, the Operational Excellence/Health & Safety Field Officer will enable the group to accelerate the transformation of the operations by bringing performance improvement while creating a safe, clean and visual workplace. This function is a key contributor on the change of mindset at all levels of the organisation and a contributor to the creation of value. As an Operational Excellence/Health & Safety Field Officer this person coordinates and challenges the continuous improvement program in order to ensure a constant pipeline of projects, delivering hard and soft savings. As an Operational Excellence/Health & Safety Field Officer this person supports and, where appropriate, leads improvement projects of the UK Industrial Hub to improve its Operational and H&S performance. Develops a pragmatic and positive Safety, Health and Environmental culture within the UK Industrial Hub, contributing towards the reduction of accidents and incidents (environment and safety). As a member of the UK Industrial Hub Health & Safety team, work to establish and further develop a positive health and safety culture within Imerys Minerals Limited, by building a proactive, team approach to health and safety management. Maintain a “hands on” awareness of health and safety issues through ongoing direct support to operational sites. JOB SCOPE/DIMENSIONS Deployment of Imerys I-Cube program across operational sites within the UK Industrial Hub. I-Cube will be used as the vehicle to implement improved industrial practices in safety, production, maintenance, quality and costs savings. Engaging people with different levels of knowledge, skill, and experience Managing resistance to change at all levels within the plant Training and coaching people with different levels of skill and abilities. The Operational Excellence/Health & Safety Field Officer will be based at Heathfield, Devon, but will need to travel regularly on sites where I-Cube deployment he/she supervises is on-going, as well as travel for training opportunities. Rapidly credible as an expert in Operational Excellence. Ensure the delivery of efficient, effective and timely health and safety support and advice ensuring consistency of approach and content. Support the development, implementation, monitoring and auditing of Site EHS systems. Ensure the input and delivery of accurate and timely EHS data / reports for the UK and Group systems and to management. Travel to UK Industrial Hub sites to provide support/advice. KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES To deploy the I-Cube program and respect the standard process and in line with protocols for environment, health, safety and quality. Assess through in-depth visits, investigations and interviews, the performance of production facilities & mining operations in respect of the I-Cube process. Together with the plant management teams, determine key priorities and design action plans to improve facility health and safety performance in alignment with established standards; and implement the action plans. To manage Operational Excellence (OpEx) performance reporting and review key site business KPIs. To develop long term and short term process and operational improvement goals, to have a sustainable direction of I-Cube program. Reporting of assessment results, leading and recording of Steering Committees, using the system and database required by the group. To evaluate if the work is done according to the to-do list of deployment: If not the case, define "why" with the engaged people and define the appropriate countermeasures team and Plant Manager. Teach, train and coach Track, analyse and suggest improvements for productivity data at plants Lead workshops using lean methodologies Give training and coaching to various levels of the organization about health and safety and methodologies and tools of Operational Excellence Increase financial awareness of the plant teams in order to focus the operational excellence on the key loss-reduction activities in financial terms. To identify good practices at the plant level and share and promote these practices within the Operations community via webinars, intranet, seminars, etc.... Generally contribute to the improvement and effectiveness of: Audits and assessments Accident/incident investigations including root cause analysis Performance reporting Document control & management EHS meeting structures Support other UK Industrial Hub initiatives that from time to time, will be required for business performance improvement Line Management: Provide Operational Excellence and health and safety support and guidance as required. Accidents and Incidents: Ensure all are investigated thoroughly in a timely manner and that identified remedial actions are implemented to prevent reoccurrence. Enablon Develop knowledge to effectively use and manage Enablon the EHS database. Health & Safety Document: Review and update documentation to enable compliance with relevant legislation, Imerys Group and local policies, identifying where improvements can be made to realise operational and business excellence. Auditing & Monitoring of Performance: Provide support for operations ensuring compliance with current health and safety legislation and I-Cube initiatives by carrying out audits / inspections. Provide performance information to benchmark activities against other functions / activities, entities, operators / sectors and identify areas for improvement. Emergency Procedures & Response: Emergency response as necessary to site Environmental incidents, providing technical support and advice, evaluation and emergency liaison with Regulatory authorities. Training: Assist in the development of and where required deliver, training strategies and activities. Meetings: Attend as necessary, OPEX, Business / Production / EHS Team etc. JOB SPECIFICATIONS Education and experience requirements Qualification in a technical degree or equivalent. Formal certification as (or prepared to work towards) an I-Cube champion Practical experience in operations/production/process. Thorough knowledge of UK Industrial Hub sites and activities with a clear understanding of its policies, structures, processes and procedures Competent and practical understanding of EHS Legislation To complement: Acquisition of an expertise in the various principles and practices of Lean and Continuous Improvement Trained in training, coaching, and motivation techniques Proven experience on change management projects Business savvy and financial sensibility Solid technical and IT skills enabling understanding all aspects of industrial work Membership of a relevant professional organisation eg IOSH, IEMA would be desirable. Fluent in English language; other language skills would be an advantage Knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics The Operational Excellence/Health & Safety Field Officer needs to demonstrate strong soft and technical skills, including: Problem solving Excellent oral and written communication with both internal and external partners Project Management and excellent planning skills Ability to influence without authority Ability to lead multi-disciplined and multi-cultural teams Have great teaching skills to be able to explain concepts, help and assist our staff members in health and safety/ I-Cube deployment and to be able to make clear feedback to encourage improvements Strong technical skills (health & safety, process, lean tools, etc) Self-starter with strong analytical skills. High level of enthusiasm, commitment and dedication. Effective team player but also able to lead and to work unsupervised. Full driving licence.
