The Role: This role is a unique opportunity to not limit yourself to one Data career path but enter a ground-breaking data science company and develop skills in both Data Science and Data Engineering. As a Data Science Engineer you will be the perfect hybrid of the two worlds, developing advanced analytical solutions to complex problems and deploying them in repeatable data pipelines. The Data team ingests data from multiple sources including our partners and 3rd party APIs and are tasked with combining, preparing, and modelling this data for use in our products (web applications), external consultancy clients or our internal Data Science Toolbox. Responsibilities: Apply systems architecture and software design skills in the development of data pipelines on Hadoop, PostgreSQL and Spark Design and develop new algorithms for extracting insight from social data using SQL and Python Develop crawlers to extract data from the web or APIs Build infrastructure around existing internal tools to enhance capabilities and improve data flow Implement statistical models and algorithms including clustering on large scale graph data Deploy to, work on and manage AWS especially EMR and S3 Accurately estimate solutions and time against project priorities, deadlines and deliverables Translating business problems into analytical solutions with exposure to a broad application of data science techniques such as Machine Learning, Statistical Modelling, Data Mining and Network Analysis Requirements A minimum 2:1 in a STEM subject 2+ years of programming experience with Python, specifically the iPython data ecosystem (Pandas, Numpy etc.) Basic knowledge of AWS services such as S3, EC2, EMR, and how to use them Experience automating data pipelines in Python Communication skills with the ability to explain complex analytical concepts to people from other teams A real curiosity to push the boundaries of how Data can be used An enjoyment of working collaboratively A constant desire to learn and develop new skills Bonus Experience: Scheduling and automating data pipelines with Airflow Big Data technologies such as Spark, specifically PySpark Deploying to, working on and managing services on AWS Developing serverless applications and services in Python Building and managing Docker containers Building APIs in Python Asynchronous or Parallel processing in Python NoSQL databases such as MongoDB Training & Development: You will be working with an industry leading team and will be given a mentor both to develop your technical understanding and personal development, this ensures your skills are being constantly nurtured and you grow within the business.
