Background The International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC), is a non-profit public international organization in the soil fertility and agricultural development sector. IFDC is headquartered in Alabama, USA, with two regional coordination offices in Africa. One of the two divisions in Africa, the East & Southern Africa Division (ESAFD), coordinated from Nairobi, Kenya, is implementing several projects in Mozambique. IFDC is implement the Food Security Through Climate Adaptation and Resilience in Buzi District (IFDC FAR-Sofala) project. The project seeks to introduce improved farming inputs and Climate Smart Agriculture practices combined with strong market links to semi-subsistence and semi-commercial smallholders rice and vegetables farmers that will improve crop productivity and generate income while ensuring food security. To support the implementation of FAR – Sofala, IFDC Mozambique is seeking to recruit a highly competent individual to fill the position of Field Coordinator, to provide agronomic technical assistance required to increase productivity and link smallholder farmers to input and output markets in the rice and vegetables value chains. He or she must have an understanding of the difficulties that face smallholder farmers and the roles that agribusiness and financial services play in sustainably lift smallholder farmers out of the poverty This position will be based in Buzi/Beira with frequent travel to project target areas and along the Beira Corridor. He or she will report to Project Team Leader. JOB OVERVIEW & DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW The Field Coordinator will be responsible for all agronomy and market business-related linkages in the input and output sector. As part of Monitoring and Result Measurements (MRM) activity, he or she will review and update the MRM tools supported by IFDC team. Role and Responsibilities The Field Coordinator will work closely with Project team Leader, and expected to: Daily coordination and follow up of project activities in close collaboration with field teams Together with field team, conduct and monitoring on-farm demonstration plots with strong market-linkages. This includes work planning with farmers’ associations/groups, SDAEs extension officers, Hub-Agrodealers, rural agro-dealers, fertilizer companies, buyers other implementing organizations of FAR Mozambique such as AFAP. Facilitate the links between smallholder farmers and major off-takers along the rice, maize, legumes and vegetable value chains Undertaking regular visits to project areas and meeting with partners and stakeholders to discuss barriers to success, opportunities for advancement, and progress made toward achieving project goals and objectives; Prepare and coordinate field days with partners in the rice and vegetables value chains Work with team in development of annual workplan including the indicators for Monitoring and Results Measurement Collect all relevant information on performance indicators as related to FAR interventions Serve as focal point with whom the FAR Monitoring and Results Measurement (MRM) can liaise. Assisting in the identification of opportunities for project development and expansion With approval of Country Representative, represent IFDC in the country with stakeholders from public and private sectors, development partners and stakeholders to further the aims of IFDC in Mozambique and the region. Master’s degree preferred Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks; Ability to work independently and to take initiative; Ability and willingness to travel frequently to the field; Excellent oral, written and inter personal and communication skills in Portuguese and English High level of initiative, enthusiasm and teamwork Motorbike driving license Required Experience 5 years’ experience in agri-business development (demand creation and awareness), technology transfer methods or approaches Knowledge on functioning of private sector, particularly agro dealer, collective market and outgrowing functioning (strengths and weaknesses); Proven and extensive project management experiences (monitoring and report writing), strong knowledge on rice, maize, legumes and vegetables production by smallholder farmers
