As the Legal Counsel you will be primarily responsible for supporting the Senior Legal Counsel and providing legal advice and services to Hunter Water including providing written and verbal advice and briefings, carrying out legal research and providing contracting and drafting services on an as required basis. This role will also provide legal compliance and generalist legal services and work collaboratively with Hunter Water staff to develop and implement legal systems and practices which address Hunter Water's key operational risks and compliance obligations. This role offers you the opportunity to step into a position that is operationally focussed, helping to develop and implement legal strategies that foster a safe workplace, innovation, continuous improvement, EEO, job satisfaction and operational performance. Offering a 12 month fixed term contract, this position is suitable for candidates seeking either full time work (35 hours per week) or flexible working options, including part time hours.The role offers a full time equivalent base salary of up to $106,750 per annum plus superannuation contributions of 9.5% and a range of attractive employees benefits (final offer to be commensurate with the skills and experience of the successful candidate). To be considered for this position you will be able to address the following essential selection criteria: Admission as a solicitor in one or more States in Australia (or equivalent qualifications from overseas and taking steps to be admitted in Australia) Relevant legal skills in interpreting, analysing and drafting legal documents Familiarity and understanding of relevant legislation including commercial and contracts law Ability to manage legal cases Proven leadership ability with well-developed communication, negotiation, influencing and interpersonal skills Proven commitment to displaying absolute discretion, integrity and a high ethical standard at all times Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment High level of attention to detail Proven ability to show initiative and work autonomously The following skills and experience are not essential but will be highly regarded in the selection process: Previous experience in an in house role, or similar Utility industry experience Proven experience in effectively managing outside legal resources To be considered for this position applicants must: Address the Selection Criteria listed above and Provide a current resume To obtain the position description please click here.
