The sheer scale and scope of what our 700-strong team deliver is immense. From water to energy, rail to roads, our engineering team work across the airport on a huge range of exciting development, construction and maintenance projects across our £14bn asset base. Our civil and structural assets range from 4 million square metres of airfield pavements to 180 kilometres of airside and landside roads. We maintain 50 tunnels, 31 bridges and 32 earth retaining structures, as well as a wide portfolio of buildings, including our terminals. We operate the largest private water distribution service in Europe and maintain assets unique to Heathrow, such as our automated transport ‘pods’. Through our apprenticeship you’ll be shaping a career and gaining valuable on-the-job experience. The scheme offers the training, guidance and support you need to develop the skills you’ll need to establish yourself in your engineering career. During our four-year apprenticeship, you’ll be joining the high-performing team responsible for maintaining the critical engineering infrastructure at Heathrow. You’ll develop a diverse skillset as you learn from experienced colleagues and build your technical expertise. Across the programme we will invest in your continuous training and growth, supporting you to gain Engineering NVQs at levels 2 and 3, with the opportunity to complete further qualifications – up to and including a Bachelor of Engineering degree. At Heathrow we’ve been offering Engineering Apprenticeships for over 40 years. Over 50% of our current Engineering workforce have completed an apprenticeship, with over 95% of graduating apprentices being offered a permanent position at Heathrow. Who we are looking for: We’re looking for committed, eager and driven individuals, willing to learn in a structured environment. To qualify for our apprenticeship, in terms of GCSEs, you must have a grade 5 or above in Maths, Science and English. Alternatively, you could have qualifications surpassing these GCSE requirements. You must be aged 16 or over, and be willing to work in a shift-based role once you turn 18. Beyond your academic qualifications, we will be looking for evidence that you are interested and enthusiastic about developing a career within Engineering.
