We are looking for a leader with supervisory and motivational experience to join Heart and Stroke as Manager, Government Relations and Health Promotion. The role is based out of our Mount Pearl (NL) office and reports to the Senior Vice President, NS, PEI & NL. You will play an integral role in ensuring the mission mandates, including health promotion, health information services, survivor support services and stroke services are achieved in a strategic, effective and efficient manner. You will work closely with the Senior Vice President to plan the provincial advocacy process, execute advocacy priorities and develop advocacy briefs, papers and related documents. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record in various areas of the field of health systems and promotion, including advocacy, government and community relations. Have strong networking experience with government officials and related non-government organizations. In addition, possesses strong technical background in program planning and evaluation and has a firm grasp of health promotion theory and models. How you will make an impact every day. Team Leadership: Participate as part of the Foundation's leadership team to ensure the effective management of the Foundation and its progress toward mission Lead and inspire the development of an effective and high performing team, ensuring high standards of delivery and competence. Ensure that Foundation values are maintained and that individuals are well supported in fulfilling their accountabilities, developing their skills and achieving their career potential Supervise department staff including assisting with goal setting and conducting staff performance reviews Ensure that department staff are managed in accordance with the human resource regulations and policies of the Foundation Government/Stakeholder Relations, Partnerships and Advocacy: Build relationships with federal, provincial, municipal and local authorities, including working with staff to ensure open lines of communication and advancement of H&F mission Assist with the development of annual advocacy strategy based on political, social, health and economic factors Support the development of healthy public policy at all levels of government Develop and maintain effective communication links with associations and regulatory agencies that can assist the Foundation in achieving its mission goals Research and monitor program activities by peer agencies in the health, government, and charitable sectors Maintain familiarity with the current research literature and new developments in research and health promotion. Mission Advisor and Partner: Participate on National working groups and committees Oversee effective and efficient management of the health promotion, health information services, stroke, and survivor support services portfolios Work with colleagues to ensure cross departmental planning, development and evaluation of Foundation activities and initiatives Work with the national Mission Leads staff group in planning and implementing national plans in Newfoundland and Labrador, to the extent possible, feasible, and aligned with local and national priorities in mission priority areas Represent the Foundation, providing support and leadership as appropriate, in relevant provincial coalitions and alliances Act as a Foundation key Mission spokesperson to the media and give presentations to the public and other stakeholders What you bring A minimum of five years of progressive responsibility in health promotion, advocacy, and health systems, including supervisory experience Excellent relationship building skills to generate enthusiasm and motivate staff, key stakeholders, donors and volunteers around a shared vision. Well-developed leadership and facilitation skills. Experience with CVD prevention and collaboration with the federal, provincial, regional and municipal governments and their roles in promoting health Successful track record in various areas of the field of health promotion, including advocacy, government and community relations Experience in science and health promotion, social marketing Strategic thinker with the ability to align competing priorities Financial management skills to administer department budgets. Demonstrated strength in both volunteer and staff management Experience in the not-for-profit sector is considered an asset Experience working in collaboration with Indigenous communities an asset Knowledge of and/or experience with the research process and/or grants management is an asset Applying If you have the qualifications and share our passion for our mission, we invite you to forward your resume and cover letter before the closing date.
