About the role As a police officer, you will work across an increasingly diverse community and face an ever-changing criminal landscape. Whether working as a uniformed officer or detective, you’ll be part of in an increasingly diverse workforce, and develop the skills and knowledge to deal with new and emerging types of crime, such as cybercrime, as well as high-harm offences like rape and domestic abuse. Police Constable intakes 2020 NEW POLICE OFFICERS: For those who aren’t already in policing, we are recruiting under two routes but to make things easy you will fill out the same initial application form. ENTRY ROUTE 1: Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) 3 Year programme – RECRUITMENT OPEN ENTRY ROUTE 2: Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP) 2 Year programme – RECRUITMENT OPEN Note: ENTRY ROUTE 2 is the appropriate route for those who have a degree and want to apply for our Direct Entry Detective Programme. You can find more about Entry Routes in our Joining Guide Location of work As a Police Officer you could be “posted” (required to work) anywhere within Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. You must be willing and able to travel to a work base in these locations. At first, you will be based at one of our training venues which is a minimum of 9 weeks with further training and tutoring in other locations continuing from this. Please note accommodation is not be provided at our training venues and during this period and you will be required to make your own travel arrangements. The station you will be posted to after you have completed your training and tutoring will not be confirmed to you until the latter part of the training process. Annual leave in your first year During your first year of service you will be expected to take your annual leave during planned breaks in your training. If you have existing holiday plans booked this will not stop you from applying for this role but, if successful, you may not be able to start your training until you can commit to attending the whole training programme for your first full year of service. Academic Entry Criteria for the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) All Candidates applying for the PCDA entry route must hold Maths and English GCSE grade C or above/4 or higher (or equivalent Level 2 qualification in maths and English) at the point of applying or commit to achieving this prior to final offer. In addition, to be considered for entry to the PCDA, applicants should hold, and be able to evidence, a minimum of a level 3 qualification or higher. A Level 3 qualification is equivalent to one A level with grade A - C in any subject, or one of the equivalent level 3 qualifications as listed on the government website. Applicants without level 3 qualifications but with the required Math and English qualifications can be considered if: You have previously served in the military or armed forces, or similar law enforcement agency, and have successfully completed the minimum term of service and have an exemplary reference (previous service in military or armed forces is a minimum of 2 years within the last 5 years). or You have previously served in another emergency service (this includes Special, PCSO or other operational roles in another Police force) and have an exemplary reference. (Previous service in an emergency service is a minimum of 2 years within the last 5 years and have worked in an operational role.) or You are an internal member of staff who has completed their probation period. or You have gained a Certificate in Knowledge of Policing Academic entry criteria for the Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP) Applicants for the DHEP must have successfully completed, and be able to evidence, a minimum of a UK undergraduate honours degree (level 6 qualification) in any subject, or overseas equivalent as recognised by UK NARIC. Applicants with non – UK degrees may need to provide evidence of an acceptable English language qualification if their degree was not taught and assessed in English. Candidates must also hold Maths GCSE grade C or above/4 or higher or equivalent qualification at the point of applying or commit to achieving this prior to final offer. Other essential criteria Full Manual Driving Licence required (you do not need this to apply for the role, but you will need to pass your test before a job offer will be given) You must be committed to working in Hampshire & Isle of Wight and be able to show close ties to the County Please do not apply if you do not meet the eligibility criteria or your application will be rejected. With public safety paramount, the recruitment and selection process is very thorough. It can take six months or more to complete. Once you have registered your interest on our recruitment system with Hampshire Constabulary, the Recruitment Department will send you a registration and eligibility screening link. ** Please note you do not need to add a CV or covering letter ** Following registration you will be sent a separate e-mail from our online assessment platform provider called PSI, Apollo. Through PSI, Apollo you will complete a SIFT process. The SIFT process will be completed in three separate stages which are dependent on candidates successfully passing each stage to move on to the next. The three stages are: Stage 1: Registration and Eligibility Screening Stage 2: Online Assessment 1 Stage 3: Online Assessment 2 Those successful following the online assessments will go forward for further selection processes including the National Recruitment Assessment Centre (SEARCH), dates for this are to be confirmed. Success at all parts of the process may lead to a conditional job offer subject to the required pre-employment checks (vetting, medical, references, fitness test, etc).
