Convenient commute accessibility Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Group the Director, Group Underwriting is responsible for providing strategic oversight and management to the Underwriting Team. The Director is responsible for ensuring underwriting profitability through appropriate pricing, governance and practices. The Director actively collaborates with the Sales department to help acquire and retain clients and is critical to supporting new sales and revenue growth targets. We do not look at our business as just Health and Dental. For our clients, Health and Dental are the most expensive elements of their benefits program, and they want a carrier that will do a better job managing those. We now live in a world where a single drug for a single person can be many times larger than a life claims or a lifetime of disability payments. This brings a challenge that you will be a leader in managing. Overview of Responsibilities Provide Leadership, support and guidance to the Group Underwriting Team while establishing and executing plans that enable the Department to achieve its key objectives and deliverables. Develop and implement an annual budget and strategic plan for the Group Underwriting function. Direct the Team’s overall priorities and workload to ensure achievement of the department’s objectives. Lead the development and implementation of enhancements to Group Underwriting policies and procedures that improve profitability, productivity, quality, and customer service. Embrace GSC’s Mission and Values. Mentor, coach and facilitate professional training and development for the Group Underwriting Team. Contribute to GSC’s overall business strategy including working with Finance, Sales, Pricing and Corporate Analytics to achieve net margins in the Corporate Plan. Responsible for Underwriting Policy which outlines our philosophy and practices. Ensure that pricing for renewals and quotes supports achievement of the margins included in the Corporate Plan. Ensure that risks are identified and risk management policies are developed and implemented Oversee all renewals and quotes, and their various components such as stop loss rates, administration rates, trend factors, IBNR factors, risk factors, reinsurance charges, and travel administration rates and assistance charges. Builds relationships with other business areas to contribute to the success of the department and the company. Client & Product Support Analyze and suggest approaches for strategic partner product pricing. Play a key role in large client in contract negotiation benefit analysis. Build and maintain strong partnerships with all clients, with a specific focus on the company’s key accounts and strategic alliances and partnerships. Represent Group Underwriting in discussion with both internal and external clients, potential clients and partners and alliances to ensure that performance standards and objectives are defined and achieved. Establish relationships with key clients, strategic alliance partners, sales, and marketing staff to provide advice on cost containment policies and procedures, plan design strategies, and other strategic initiatives. YOUR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE A results-oriented and highly credible individual who likely offers at least 15 years of progressive underwriting experience preferably in the insurance and group benefit industry. Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Math or related field. NICE TO HAVE Bilingualism (French and English).
