The Underwriter Trainee is responsible for learning the elements of underwriting, including client relationship management and the fundamentals of the insurance industry, with the goal of proceeding to the position of Underwriter. Responsibilities include reviewing and acting upon applications for the varied products offered by the Casualty and Professional Division for the purpose of developing insurance quotes with the expectation of profit. With a manager or mentor, Underwriting Trainees are responsible for learning the skills of risk and exposure analysis, how to conduct research and learning pricing techniques and coverage terms and structures. In addition, Underwriter Trainees will learn negotiating skills, how to analyze market information, and to develop client relationships through phone, in-person visits and industry events.
