About Futurpreneur Canada Futurpreneur Canada is the only national non-profit that provides resources, financing and mentoring to aspiring business owners ages 18 to 39. Since 1996, we have supported over 12,000 young entrepreneurs launching more than 10,000 Canadian businesses in every province and territory across the country. Last year, 45% of the businesses supported by the Futurpreneur Start-up Program were women led. Mentoring is at the core of what we do, as we match every entrepreneur that we finance with a business expert from a network of 3,000 volunteer mentors. Here’s the opportunity: Futurpreneur is seeking a Controller to join our organization. The Controller will report to the Vice President, Finance and contributes to the overall success and financial sustainability of the organization by pro-actively and effectively managing all financial aspects for Futurpreneur (and related entities). The role requires a hands-on approach to simultaneously be managing day to day and longer term financial aspects. Our financial operations have the added complexity of safeguarding a loan asset of more than $30 million. In addition to handling all core financial responsibilities the Controller is also responsible for continuously improving our financial and measurement policies, systems, and processes with input from stakeholders. As the successful candidate, you must be able to develop solutions, communicate effectively and ensure high accuracy. What you will do: General Financial Management Tracking of annual budget in a manner that identifies and addresses gaps Preparation of annual cash flow and quarterly cash requirements including line of credit utilization Review of Investment Manager activities and recommendations Oversee and manage the general accounting functions; payables, banking, general ledger Plan and complete the annual audit including all supporting information for the Audit and Finance Committee Support the VP Finance with financial projections for long range planning Contract Management, Funder Measurement and Reporting Provide support to proposal development in areas of financial budgets, measurement and impact Track and analyze financial measurement of funder deliverables and share insights with other teams Plan and prepare for special evaluations and audits as required by funders and key partners Manage relationships with a variety of external and internal stakeholders Effective presentation of financial data to members of non-financial teams Financial Systems, Controls and Compliance Coordinate and deliver the tasks in the annual work plan for the Audit and Finance Committee Ensuring compliance with all statutory regulations related to employment income Evaluate the need for upgraded and/or new technology to meet the organization’s financial data requirements and improve the user experience with collecting and accessing financial information Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure appropriate security and retention of financial information Identify opportunities for cost efficiencies and savings Organization and People Regularly coach and provide feedback to two team members to enable them to grow and thrive and reach their full potential Motivate the team to be the best they can in every aspect of what they do Celebrate successes by recognizing the contributions of committed team members and their achievements Make a difference in the lives of our Young Entrepreneurs by helping our team members make our entrepreneurs’ dreams come true What you will have: University degree in Business Administration or Commerce Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA) or near completion 4+ years professional experience including managing others Experience in the not for profit or other sector receiving government funding Advanced MS Excel skills Proven track record of building strong relationships and communicating with both internal and external stakeholders Experience with federal, provincial, tax and other legislation specific to charities and not for profits Experience with an MS Enterprise Resource Planning system such as Navision and MS CRM an asset Alignment with Futurpreneur’s values and commitment to the mission/purpose of the organization.
