Senior UK Financial Accountant Reporting to: UK Financial Controller Location: Bracken House, 1 Friday Street, London, UK Salary: competitive Job posting closes 8 April 2020. PRINCIPAL DUTIES Payroll and employment taxes responsibilities Monthly reconciliation of expatriate payroll GL files prepared by external consultants to underlying gross-to-net reports, timely preparation and execution of journal files, identification of discrepancies and presentation of these to external consultants to ensure corrections and process improvements are made. Engagement with the Global Mobility, Payroll and Tax teams, Business Analysts and external consultants in the investigation and resolution of expatriate payroll and employment tax accounting issues in line with FT accounting policy and provision of cross-disciplinary support to ensure their financial reporting impact is understandable and that Business Analysts can be confident in the results presented to senior management. To be the principal point of contact with external consultants regarding expatriate payroll accounting, formulating and communicating intelligent process change recommendations and overseeing their implementation through diligent ongoing review. Collaboration with the Payroll, Accounts Payable, Cash, Group FD and CFO to support funding requests from payroll providers, ensuring their correctness and payment in line with agreed deadlines. Reconciliation of hypothetical deductions and actual payments for pensions and social security across the UK expatriate population and investigation of variances. Analysis of the wider payroll balance sheet process for non-expat payrolls, developing robust and automated reconciliation processes and coaching team members to ensure these are understood and executed to ensure all historic and current balances are properly analysed and justified and necessary action points are documented, substantiated and executed. Review of all UK payroll balance sheet reconciliations prepared by the Financial Reporting team, including monitoring of reconciling items and agreeing timelines for their prompt and proactive settlement. Assist regional Financial Controllers in the resolution of payroll related balance sheet issues by producing detailed analysis, collaborating with relevant stakeholders and subsequently presenting rigorously substantiated action points for issue resolution. Formulate and present recommendations to FT colleagues and external consultants for improvements in processes to ensure a seamless month end process and collaborate with regional Financial Controllers to ensure that payroll related finance policies, procedures, controls and systems are developed, enhanced and adhered to. Project reporting responsibilities Preparation of monthly financial analysis of Bracken House Technology, Facilities, Video Suite and ‘Day 2’ capital spend and operating expenditure to be used in actual-vs-budgeted project spend reporting. Instruct wider accounting teams to make necessary accounting adjustments to ensure reporting is accurate. Reconciliation of financial analysis to Project Management Office (PMO) records and investigation of reconciling items and their settlement through provision of instructions to Fixed Assets team and/or the PMO. Preparation of project cash flow analysis for inclusion in reporting to FT’s parent company, Nikkei. Development of reporting deliverables to ensure project reporting provides an insightful, accurate and relevant basis for decision making for budget holders. Intra-group recharge responsibilities Production of monthly and quarterly subsidiary and joint venture recharge calculations in line with formally agreed service contracts and liaison with wider teams to in the execution of invoicing. Liaison with subsidiary and joint venture Business Analysts and senior finance partners in the resolution of queries in respect of amounts recharged. Other Ad hoc tasks as directed by the UK Financial Controller, Group Finance Director or Chief Financial Officer. Qualifications & experience Part-qualified in ACCA/ACA/CIMA. Extensive understanding of accounting for expatriate payroll and associated employment taxes through demonstrable experience of being a key player in the management of the expatriate payroll balance sheet is essential. Experience in preparing and/or reviewing payroll balance sheet reconciliations is essential. Experience in accounting for fixed assets is a major advantage. Ability to communicate with people at all levels and across different geographies and cultures. Confidence in dealing with non-finance staff. Ability to search for, challenge and scrutinise evidence relating to account balances and accounting entries. Ability to work to demanding deadlines. Ability to build relationships with stakeholders within the business at senior management level to produce key deliverables. Must have enthusiasm, resilience, drive and commitment, with the ability to work effectively in a constantly changing environment. Must have strong commercial acumen, the foresight to ask the right questions and the skills to work effectively with other areas of the finance function. Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to present finance and tax concepts to non-finance and non-tax colleagues to enable the individual to influence and persuade colleagues across disciplines.
