Ongoing / Non-ongoing APS Level 6 opportunity Positions available in any FWO location Lead a team to inquire into and investigate breaches of the Fair Work Act 2009 The Fair Work Ombudsman was established by the Fair Work Act 2009. Our role is to work with employees, employers, contractors and the community to promote harmonious, productive and cooperative workplaces. We investigate workplace complaints and enforce compliance with Australia's workplace laws. We are seeking exceptional candidates for Team Leader roles across the Compliance and Enforcement (C&E) Branch. The C&E Branch is primarily responsible for ensuring compliance with the Fair Work Act 2009 by conducting investigations and audits. If you have a background in government or regulatory investigations, financial or insurance investigations, or workplace investigations, at a staff management level the Team Leader role will interest you. Roles may be offered for a non-ongoing period of 12 months initially, with the possibility of becoming ongoing. The role requires travel on an as needs basis. Selection Criteria To be successful in this role you will possess: excellent written and oral communication skills self-initiative, drive, and accountability the ability to think strategically the ability to identify and mitigate risk the ability to plan and manage investigations into potential non-compliance with the Fair Work Act 2009 and appropriate enforcement outcomes the ability to manage and organise work in a fast paced regulatory environment, including motivating your team to meet key performance indicators high level analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to detect patterns in evidence sound knowledge of the Australian workplace relations system and relevant legislation, or the ability and willingness to quickly acquire that knowledge the ability to mentor, coach and develop staff so they develop key skills, and tertiary qualifications in business/law/IR or social sciences (desirable but not essential). Please note: Under section 700(2) of Fair Work Act 2009, the Fair Work Ombudsman may only appoint a person as a Fair Work Inspector if the Fair Work Ombudsman is satisfied that the person is of a good character. This will involve completion of a national police check. Typical Duties The duties of a Team Leader may include, but are not limited to managing, leading and providing quality assurance in relation to the work of geographically dispersed Fair Work Inspectors, such as: undertaking compliance activities and exercising statutory compliance powers in accordance with the FWO’s Compliance and Enforcement Policy delivering appropriate and timely enforcement outcomes under the Fair Work Act 2009 and relevant legislation delivering exceptional customer service to stakeholders, including education about rights and obligations under Australian workplace laws maintaining effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders preparing and delivering high quality reports to management and executives preparing and delivering briefs of evidence including providing testimonial evidence in court proceedings conducting interviews with employees and employers, and conducting workplace site visits and interviews working with interpreters and translators.
