Job description Please note, within the organisation, this role is referred to as 'Senior Associate - Paralegal'. Within EHRC, Senior Associate refers to the grade of a role, rather than a Senior Associate role within a law firm. Working in the Litigation and Advisory team in our Legal Directorate, you will provide support to our lawyers working on equality and human rights litigation and advice. This role will also involve working on the Commission’s legal support projects which are currently focused on helping disabled and older people who have experienced discrimination while using, or attempting to use public transport and disabled pupils in relation to the provision of reasonable adjustments by schools and authorities. The project team assess applications for funding to assist in resolving complaints - including offering advice and help with correspondence, or providing funding for legal support. Responsibilities Key elements of this role include * managing a caseload and competing priorities in assessing and evaluating case referrals * liaising with other teams including the coordination of project tasks and communications * liaising and communicating with members of the public, advisers and external lawyers * proofing of documents * arranging, co-ordinating and taking minutes of project meetings * keeping case management systems up to date and accurate, drawing off reports. Your work will be spread across assisting with the legal support projects but also supporting lawyers on other litigation outside of the projects spanning across all protected characteristics relating to the work, education and transport provisions of the Equality Act as required. To be successful in this exciting yet challenging role, you will have to have knowledge and experience of working in the legal system, conducting or assisting with the conduct of litigation and working on projects and project delivery. You will report to a legal Principal (a more senior solicitor) and will work independently when required or with minimal or no supervision depending on the task within agreed delegated limits and supervisory frameworks.
