THE OPPORTUNITY Reporting to the Head, Strategic Communications and Engagement, the Director of Communications plays an essential role in maintaining the quality and effectiveness of the Equality Fund’s marketing, communications, and media relations activities, and in supporting colleagues across the organization on shared projects and initiatives. We are looking to hire an experienced, energetic, detail-oriented, strategic, and independently motivated individual to drive our communications engine. The ideal candidate can quickly respond to urgent needs as well as plan and implement longer-term projects and can focus on the big picture as well as write compelling copy. SCOPE & RESPONSIBILITIES Develop communications efforts with a strong focus on content marketing, strategic and corporate communications, and, as needed, event promotions Support the communications strategy with writing and/or editing of communications products, marketing messages and other content Manage and evolve website experience for a changing organization Act as first point of contact for all media inquiries and assist spokespeople when responding to media inquiries Support public relations (PR) activities through researching relevant media influencers, monitoring media mentions, tracking digital/print media clippings and measuring performance Using project management tools, coordinate all Marketing and Communications team project schedules & deliverables related to Equality Fund events and projects; setting, reviewing and maintaining workflows to ensure projects stay on track and that deliverables are met Design and build professional presentations in collaboration with other team members QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES University degree in Marketing, Communications or related field 7+ years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, stakeholder and media relations Excellent written and verbal communications skills with experience in writing marketing and communications related copy for a variety of audiences in web, social and print Excellent organizational, administrative and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines, multi-task and prioritize, with superb attention to detail in a fast-paced environment Strong familiarity with communications, public relations and social media planning and evaluation of campaigns and initiatives Knowledge of editing and proofreading practices, Canadian Press style preferred Comfortable learning new platforms and using technology to improve workflow and communications High proficiency with web and social media platforms including: WordPress/CraftCMS, Mailchimp and Hootsuite (or other social media monitoring software), Google AdWords Intermediate skills in MS Office Suite, G Suite, Google Analytics, project management tools Working knowledge of Canva, InDesign and Photoshop an asset Experience with video projects, including production an asset Experience in a high-growth start-up environment an asset Experience in media, investment, philanthropic, or women’s rights/gender equality fields also an asset A strong willingness to take initiative, work within a dynamic team, and take direction well with a positive attitude Creative thinker who is always striving to improve Openness to work on cross functional/multi-disciplinary teams Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing priorities, to steer in new/different directions Can do/Anything is possible mindset!
