We are looking for an innovative climate change researcher to help develop the evidence the Environment Agency needs to adapt to climate change. You will be joining a team of scientists that leads research on climate change impacts and adaptation for all the Environment Agency’s activities. In this role you will be working to develop innovative approaches for how we make use of climate change evidence, providing scientific advice and analysis on climate change adaptation. The purpose of this role is to provide the highly specialised scientific expertise and technical skills to develop, interpret and make use of climate change evidence that are needed to support our work in preparing for climate change. This will include: Providing scientific analysis and interpretation to support adaptation by the Environment Agency and others Undertaking and managing research to meet current and future needs for climate change science in a technical area across our remit. Developing innovative approaches to how we use climate change evidence to support adaptation decision making. The team The Climate Change and Resource Efficiency Research team provides expert scientific advice and analysis. The team of nine has leading expertise in climate change impacts and adaptation. With strong links to academia and within the Defra family, we use and commission scientific research to improve the way the Environment Agency tackles the difficult challenge of climate change. Experience/skills required You will have research experience in climate change impacts in environmental applications linked to freshwater science and be experienced in providing scientific advice to non-specialists. You will have a relevant degree (environment science, engineering, geography) and likely to have a PhD or similar experience of using climate change information in a research context and providing adaptation advice. Whether you developed your expertise through academic research or as a practitioner you will have an excellent understanding of climate change science, will be highly numerate, have demonstrable skills in data analysis (experience in R or Python would be advantageous) and be able to interpret scientific results. A good communicator, you will be comfortable providing scientific advice to non-specialists.
