Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) is Victoria's safety regulator responsible for electricity, gas and pipeline safety. Our role is to ensure that Victorian gas and electricity industries are safe and meet community expectations. We are also responsible for licensing and registering electricians, and educating the community about energy safety. Our people come from a wide range of professions with diverse skills and experience driving the success of ESV. About the opportunity The Compliance Officer is responsible for working with the Electrical Installations Safety (EIS) team to ensure compliance with legislation, regulations and Australian standards to ensure the safety of the Victorian community by minimising their exposure to electrical incidents and accidents. You will contribute by: Respond to complaints from the trade and the general public in relation to potential breaches of the Act, pursuant regulations, Australian standards and unsafe electrical practices. Carry out legal and technical investigations into electrical incidents (including fatalities) where there are potential breaches of the Act, pursuant regulations, Australian Standards or implications for electrical safety. Provide assistance to other agencies and regulators such as WorkSafe, MFB and CFA with electrical incidents as required. Write reports of actions undertaken in relation to complaints, events and investigations including the preparation of direction letters and written requests for information. Write briefs of evidence and work closely with the legal department to prepare for and assist in prosecutions including laying charges and attending court as an expert witness. Carry out enforcement action such as issuing warning letters or infringement notices. Respond to enquiries from the electrical trade, electrical industry, community groups and the general public, providing information, advice and interpretations in relation to licensing, registration, electricity standards (including how they are applied) and other matters related to electrical safety. About you Current electrician's licence in the State of Victoria. Significant electrical industry experience in fields including domestic, commercial and industrial. Sound working knowledge of relevant electrical legislation, regulations and safety standards. Excellent advocacy, influencing, presentation and relationship building skills. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to deal with complaints made by the public. Ability to operate independently, be self-motivated, manage and prioritise own complex workload, as well as ability to work effectively as part of a team of technical specialists. Experience in providing and delivering authoritative written technical advice and findings in such a way that it is possible to maintain good relationships when dealing with stakeholders.
