OVERVIEW The position is for an experienced reporter based in Dubai with the drive and aptitude to produce original content and analysis in the Middle East’s often opaque business and political environment. The primary focus of the role will be on covering three key areas of the Middle East’s energy sector – gas and LNG; renewables, clean energy and energy transition strategies; and corporate strategy issues, including investment, finance and M&A. Secondary responsibilities would involve covering the energy sector and related politics of certain designated countries in the region, and supporting the wider reporting efforts of the Middle East team as the news flow dictates. The successful applicant will have excellent reporting and writing skills, a good knowledge of the energy sector and/or the Middle East business and political scene, and an ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Arabic or Farsi language skills are also desirable. RESPONSIBILITIES Work as part of our Dubai editorial team to cover Mideast energy and politics Act as lead writer and point person for our coverage of the Middle East’s gas and LNG sector, its corporate oil and gas scene (including trends in investment, financing and M&A activity), and its emerging renewables, clean energy and energy transition strategies. Coverage would include a range of publications, including dailies and weeklies focused on these areas – LNG Intelligence, World Gas Intelligence, EI Finance and EI New Energy – and more general ones, including International Oil Daily, Petroleum Intelligence Weekly, Energy Compass. Secondary geographical coverage focus on second-tier energy players in the region, including Qatar as part of gas/LNG coverage and Bahrain as part of corporate/finance coverage. Liaise, communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues in Dubai and other offices with adjacent or overlapping coverage responsibilities to produce the best possible coverage and content. Support broader coverage efforts of Mideast team outside his/her regular beat as and when news flow requires. Attend conferences and other industry events as required in the Mideast Ability and willingness to travel in the region Support initiatives such as developing podcasts on key energy sector topics SKILLS/EXPERIENCE Proven track record as a journalist, preferably with knowledge of both energy sector and Middle East politics and economies. Good clear and concise writing style. Strong critical and analytical skills Ability to develop original story ideas and see angles our competitors don’t Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Good interpersonal and communications skills to facilitate cooperation with colleagues in the Dubai bureau and overseas.
