Essential Job Functions Responsible for the development, functionality, operation, and maintenance of communication equipment at the El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO). Included Office devices are radios, body worn cameras, and cell phones. Works with radio equipment on the Pikes Peak Regional Communications Network (PPRCN) 800 MHz Trunked Radio System. Oversees the maintenance of all department communication equipment, contracts, and budgets for fees and maintenance. Oversees the development, implementation, and/or acquisition of communication hardware and corresponding software systems. Coordinates project implementations with users and technical staff. Coordinates development of innovative approaches to resolve user problems. Oversees the development, implementation, and/or acquisition of radio, Body Worn and phone hardware, and corresponding software systems. Coordinates project implementations with users and technical staff. Coordinates development of innovative approaches to resolve user problems. Ensures implementation and support of all telecommunications data, voice, and video networks including hardware and software relating to the proposed trunked radio and microwave system. Prepares and reviews standard operating procedures (SOP) and policies on the operation, use, and maintenance of radio equipment by designated departments. Maintains SmartZone trunked radio system databases as authorized by PPRCN Board and System Manager under the direction of EPSO Information Technology Manager. Performs basic maintenance on radio equipment to include antennas and batteries in both an office and field environment. Develops and maintains equipment tracking and maintenance system for EPSO departmentally issued radios and batteries. Develops and maintains radio alias tracking system; receives emergency button activations from these radios. Develops and maintains radio and Body Worn budget documentation within EPSO and County Financial Services guidelines and provides to the Information Technology Manager. Represents El Paso County at PPRCN technical and non-technical meetings. Addresses public and government organizations regarding operation of the system and users' equipment. Provides training to designated departments on equipment use. Acts as member of the EPSO Emergency Operations Center (EOC) as a Communications Team Leader. Advises the Incident Commander and/or EOC Director on communications capabilities and directs the use of communications. Responsible for reviewing the monthly cell phone billing statements for accuracy and budgetary purposes. Prepares reports and presentations for the Support Operations Division, Sheriff and staff as well as federal, state, and local governing bodies. Maintains Office cell phones and hotspots; issues replacement phones as needed. Manages the EPSO Body Worn Camera program; BWC hardware includes camera phones, routers, and providing upgrades and software support. Performs other duties as required. Qualifications Associate's degree in electronics or related field required. Minimum two (2) years programming, maintenance, and repair experience with Motorola Quantar Repeater digital radio systems required. Minimum two (2) years experience with Motorola SmartZone radio system; five (5) years experience with similar digital trunked radio systems may substitute for the experience. Experience in a law enforcement agency, detentions facility, or first responder environment preferred. Working knowledge of radio frequency propagation, digital radio interference troubleshooting, and digital trunked radio system operations. Must be honest, truthful, trustworthy, and possess a high degree of personal integrity. Ability to monitor multiple computer systems while also monitoring multiple radio and telephone systems. Ability to follow complex verbal and written instructions. Must be able to multi-task with the ability to operate telephone and computer systems simultaneously. Ability to effectively handle varying degrees of stress in a multitude of emergency situations. Ability to use standard office equipment, including computer, telephone, fax machine, and copier. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Maintain regular and punctual attendance. An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the education and experience requirements above. Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, truth verification examination, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, and physical examination. Licenses/Certificates Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License. Work Conditions Work is performed in various office and field areas, including emergency dispatch, Enhanced 911, and communications center environment. Travel may be required to work at remote communications sites during hours of darkness, in inclement weather, and in a high-voltage environment. Operations are 24 hours per day, seven (7) days per week, including weekends and holidays. Must be able to work shift work and varying schedules to include holidays, weekends, and overtime. Requires prolonged standing and sitting. Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 75 lbs. Will take part of a regular on-call schedule, weekly/monthly.
