The Role: The IT Security Analyst is responsible for the monitoring of enterprise information security, and will perform two core functions in the role. The first is the day-to-day operations of the in-place security solutions while the second is the identification, investigation, and resolution of security breaches detected by those systems. Secondary tasks include involvement in the implementation of new security solutions, participation in the creation and/or maintenance of policies, processes, guidelines, and procedures as well as conducting vulnerability audits and assessments. The IT Security Analyst is expected to be fully aware of the enterprise’s security goals as established by its stated policies, plans, and processes, and to work actively towards upholding those goals. Duties & Responsibilities Operational Management Provide day-to-day monitoring of all security applications and system alerts. Monitor all in-place security solutions for efficient and appropriate operations. Maintain up-to-date baselines for the secure configuration and operations of all in-place devices, whether they be under direct control (i.e., security tools) or not (e.g., workstations, servers, network devices). Implement security upgrades, patches, and / or configuration remediation measures for information systems. Document change management and risk assessment processes. Review logs and reports of all in-place devices, whether they are under direct control (i.e., security tools) or not (e.g., workstations, servers, network devices). Interpret the implications of that activity and devise plans for appropriate resolution. Participate in investigations into problematic activity, security alerts, enterprise risk reports, and user reports. Participate in the design and execution of vulnerability assessments, penetration tests, and security audits. Provide on-call support for end users for all in-place security solutions, in collaboration with Infrastructure System Administrators and Service Desk Support, where appropriate. Strategy & Planning Participate in the planning and design of enterprise security architecture, under the direction of the IT Security Manager. Participate in the creation and/or update of enterprise security documents (policies, processes, plans, standards, baselines, guidelines, and procedures) under the direction of the IT Security Manager. Participate in the planning of the enterprise information security business continuity plan and disaster recovery plan, under the direction of the IT Security Manager, where appropriate. Participate in information security project planning sessions. Maintain up-to-date detailed knowledge of the IT security industry including awareness of new or revised security solutions, improved security processes, and the development of threat vectors. Recommend additional security solutions or enhancements to existing security solutions to improve overall enterprise security. Perform the deployment, integration, and initial configuration of all new security solutions and of any enhancements to existing security solutions in accordance with standard best operating procedures generically and the enterprise’s security documents specifically. Knowledge and Education: University degree or College diploma in Computer Science. Engineering, Computer Security, Information Systems, or related field. Three or more years of experience working within Cybersecurity. One or more of the following certifications: CompTIA Security+, GIAC Information Security Fundamentals, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator: Security Associate of (ISC)2, CISSP Strong technical expertise and aptitude with proven analytical and problem-solving abilities. Strong experience with intrusion protection, endpoint protection, and user analytic tools. Experience with Palo Alto firewalls, proxies, and anti-virus and malware detection applications. Strong familiarity with virtual environments (such as Citrix). Knowledge of how traffic flows across a network (e.g., Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol (IP), Information Technology Infrastructure Library, v3 (ITIL). Knowledge of network protocols, Dynamic Host Configuration, and Domain Name System (DNS). Experience in vulnerability assessment and penetration testing tools. Knowledge of system and application security threats and vulnerabilities (e.g., buffer overflow, mobile code, cross-site scripting, PL/SQL and injections, race conditions, covert channel, replay, return-oriented attacks, and malicious code). Knowledge of general attack stages (e.g., foot printing and scanning, enumeration, gaining access, escalation of privileges, maintaining access, network exploitation, covering tracks, etc.) Working technical knowledge of SIEM. Knowledge of NIST Guidelines and compliance requirements. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Highly self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail. Team-oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment.
