1.0 About ESS, our team, and what we are looking for: Energy Storage Systems (ESS Inc) is a fast-growing, venture-backed, multi patented, clean technology start-up, located in Wilsonville, OR. ESS has developed an extremely cost-effective energy management system that combines an environmentally safe, abundant and non-toxic iron electrolyte with our patented flow cell design. Our advanced flow battery technology combines high performance with low cost, renewable integration designed for commercial, industrial, and utility applications. This position involves close interaction with numerous engineering disciplines. Applicant must be comfortable working in a team environment that is fast paced and dynamic. A strong commitment to quality and continuous improvement is required. 2.0 Position Profile: ESS is seeking a dynamic Manufacturing Operations leader with a strong background in contract manufacturing & assembly, supplier management, contract negotiation, operational logistics (warehousing, shipping, and sparing). The role includes development, implementation and management of manufacturing and supply chain for its advanced battery technology. The successful candidate will have excellent project management skills and an ability to manage multiple projects effortlessly. Candidates with knowledge of large and complex industrial products, containerized manufacturing & transport are highly desired. Experience in battery, fuel cell technologies or power generation systems are helpful. The ideal candidate will have a passion for sustainability and the environment, will thrive in a fast-paced entrepreneurial setting, be self-motivated and have an interest in disruptive, cutting edge technology. Someone who understands the culture, the rigor and the challenges of a start-up environment. Please Note: Position may be filled at Sr. Vice President level depending on candidate experience. 3.0 Qualifications · Ability to deliver on multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment. · Must have an in-depth understanding and application of quality principles, concepts, practices, and standards. · Comfortable in fast-paced, collaborative work environment. · Strong communication and presentation skills, affable, and demonstrated maturity and professionalism. · Must be a strong problem solver with the ability to think logically and rationally. · High work ethic and strong attention to details. · Able to work in a cross-functional and geographically dispersed team environment. · Good interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a small, dynamic team responsible for product development. 4.0 Primary Responsibilities & Core Duties · Design, implement and execute greenfield manufacturing and assembly facility. · Implement and update manufacturing, supply chain and operational strategies. · Source critical components and negotiate supplier contracts. · Establish and manage ERP system. · Establish and manage safe and efficient facilities. · Lead and manage Quality, Supply Chain, and production functions. · Coordinate manufacturing for on-schedule delivery of multi-million-dollar installations. · Work with engineering and sales teams to manage manufacturing-related operational challenges. · Provide critical input to resolve operational problems related to logistics, manufacturing and fabrication. · Ensure projects meet or exceed all industry and customer requirements for cost, quality and responsiveness. · Successful operation of the production facility including daily, weekly and monthly plans as well as capital and operating budgets. · Monitor, address and report daily production and quality metrics. · Maintain neat, clean and orderly plant appearance. · Develop and maintain standard operating procedures that meet and exceed safety requirements. · Participate with management and sales on creating the annual plant budget and operating plan. · Responsible for oversight of the recruitment and training/retraining of personnel to ensure compliance to SOPs. Provide mentoring, coaching. · Ability to build and develop effective, high-performance operating teams. 5.0 Additional Requirements & Qualifications · Legally authorized, U.S. Citizenship or permanent residency. – See Note: · Ability to follow job required Standards and Safety Protocols, per pre-defined processes. · Must be able to wear Personal Protection Equipment according to OSHA rules and regulations. · Ability to fluently read and write English, comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions. · Intermediate to advanced shop math. Knowledge of English/Metric system measurement. Experience · With supplier management and supply contact negotiation. · Hands-on experience in manufacturing start-up implementation. · In building supply-chain strategies with consideration for repairs and spares. · In battery, fuel cell or power-gen systems is helpful. · With production scheduling, contract manufacturing and vendor relationship. · Commercializing new technologies in a production environment is preferred. · With financial management of a production facility including budget, expense management, and investment/return analysis. · Interacting with Lab and Engineering operations. · With financial management of a production facility including budget, expense management, and investment/return analysis. · Commercializing new technologies in a production environment is preferred. Education · BS Engineering in a related discipline, MS preferred. · 15 years’ experience in a manufacturing, assembly and logistics/supply chain leadership role. · 4 years of which is in executive management.
