Economist, Newstead - Hamilton First things first. New Zealand's dairy sector is hugely important to our economy; in fact, it's our number one primary industry. The focus of the Economist role is to create value for New Zealand dairy farmers through input into economic research, development, and extension activities. The role includes planning, conducting, and reporting economic-research projects. The focus of the position is the development and use of quantitative economic models to understand the dynamics of systems and how these can be influenced to achieve better outcomes for the dairy sector. The role will require you to work as part of a diverse team and effectively communicate scientific research. To be successful in this position you will have a postgraduate qualification in economic modelling, preferably in the agricultural or environmental domains. Experience in the analysis of populations and/or panel data would be an advantage. Knowledge of farm systems and experience in the assessment of agri-environmental policy would also be beneficial in this role.
