DEI & Associates Inc.’s goal is to hire an electrical engineer in training that has graduated or is nearing graduation from an accredited engineering program to begin their career in the building services consulting industry. DEI & Associates Inc. is looking to grow their electrical design team by adding a competent, driven, and self-motivated electrical engineer in training that is working towards their professional designation and developing their technical knowledge relating to building services. The ideal candidate would be a team player, be able to work well under pressure and tight deadlines, and be able to communicate effectively and concisely with office staff as well as with clients. The ideal candidate would have knowledge and experience with basic electrical systems, lighting calculations and layout design (experience with AGI is an asset), and electrical distribution design through a combination of co-op positions, self-learning, and post-secondary courses. DEI & Associates Inc.’s client base includes school boards, universities, regional government agencies, private owners, etc. A sampling of buildings that services are provided would include: public schools (new construction and renovations), residential condominiums and apartments, industrial facilities, retail interior fit-ups, office buildings, chain stores, etc. Qualifications This role would require an individual with the interpersonal skills (verbal and written) to effectively communicate with the project team, other project disciplines, and owners. Specifically, the ideal candidate would be able to think critically and analytically with exceptional problem solving and decision making skills. The ideal candidate would have taken courses in electrical systems, circuits, energy conversion, communication systems, power systems, and energy systems and management. The ideal candidate would have completed university projects relating to power systems, power distribution, or similar exercises during their university education. Experience with AutoCAD is required and experience with Revit is an asset. Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required. Role Overview As a Electrical Engineer in Training your role would involve working with the Senior Electrical Engineers and other staff to develop the electrical designs for a variety of buildings. This includes working with Senior Electrical Engineers to develop the design documentation for various building facilities and would include the building power requirements, interior/exterior lighting, building power distribution, fire alarm system, emergency life-safety system, and rough-ins for: computer system cabling, telecommunication, security/surveillance systems, and public address systems. Your responsibilities would include performing design calculations for these systems, selecting equipment, as well as drafting (AutoCAD) or 3D modeling (Revit) the electrical systems for assigned projects. Projects may include working on residential (low and high-rise), educational projects (public and private schools, post-secondary institutions), commercial projects (box stores, base buildings, etc.), institutional projects (public sector facilities), industrial facilities, retirement / long term care facilities, and a variety of other projects.
