As Sales Operations Manager, you’ll tackle sales strategy, partner campaigns, co-ordinate public sector bids, handle quotes and renewals, and manage a desk-based sales team. Our Sales Team is on the front line, bringing made-to-measure networking services to clients of all types. As a Sales Operations Manager, you’ll be at the very heart of Sales and the secret to its success. That’s because you’ll be analysing sales reports, spotting trends and opportunities, and presenting all this insight in a high impact way. And when you’re not giving us the information to drive decisions and strategy, you’ll be checking the finer details of quotes, orders and renewals. Meanwhile, Account Executives will be looking to you for guidance day to day. And the Sales Team as a whole will be relying on you for the big picture of performance and help with bids. So, as well as being degree-educated (or equivalent) and an experienced Sales Operations Manager, you also need to be tenacious, highly analytical and determined to see every project through to its conclusion. At this level, we’re looking for strategic sales training and knowledge of the telecoms or IT industry. You’ll need to understand our market to be the credible expert that our Sales function needs. WHERE YOU’LL HAVE AN IMPACT The role your department plays in our business You’ll join our Sales Team, who bring made-to-measure networking services to all kinds of customers. When it comes to changing people’s experience with connectivity for the better, this team’s on the front line. A DAY IN THE LIFE What a normal day at work looks like for you Day to day, you’ll: Help the Sales Director to set strategy and future goals for the Sales team. Provide the Sales team with options and tactics so they can negotiate with customers and other companies. Communicate across the entire business, giving win/loss updates, and making sure everyone’s up to date on negotiations and bids. Analyse large sets of data. Support the Sales Director and drive performance by being a great leader. Plan strategies and future operation goals. Maintain office morale by making sure Sales Operations employees feel motivated and rewarded. Multitask and switch quickly between numerous different jobs. Train new and current employees. Work with the Sales Director to improve the Sales process. Run and review a weekly Sales issues log to ensure process/system improvements are raised. Define, track and report actual performance against targets and metrics using various platforms. Recognise past trends to forecast future sales. Help the Sales Director spot high and poor performance, and implement an action plan if necessary. Provide regular data on renewals, conversion rates, commission and other key areas. Manage and evaluate data to determine the effectiveness of a product or campaign. Run monthly commissions validations for all dealer models. Make sure we follow any special bid processes. Make sure we qualify suppliers’ status and so we can deliver orders successfully. Create contracts that satisfy both the company and customer needs. Make sure all orders flow correctly downstream. Track defect management and ensure tickets are raised into the team. Raise all system bugs with the development team and make sure these are followed up. Share your knowledge of systems and process with the team, and give informal training. A DAY IN THE LIFE What you bring to the job Your background will demonstrate: Solid experience in similar role in a fast-paced SME. Experience of the telecoms industry. Experience of negotiating with clients’ C Level stakeholders. Experience of supporting Direct Customers and Channel Partners through Board-level customer presentations, senior marketing strategy and basic sales and product training for Sales teams. An understanding of IT and Telecommunications, ideally gained within telecoms, voice and data networking. Experience of major bid negotiation in addition to BAU sales. Though this isn’t essential, it would be a big advantage. YOUR QUALIICATIONS About your education and qualifications You’ll really need to know your stuff, which means you’ll need: A degree (or equivalent qualification), ideally in Business or Marketing. To have completed strategic sales training courses. Formal sales training (perhaps Spin Selling® or Miller Heiman). If you’ve used a Sales Elevator Pitch model, so much the better. YOUR REGULATORY KNOWLEDGE Anything specific you need to know This role doesn’t call for any specific expertise, however, regulatory knowledge of Ofcom legislation would be very helpful. YOUR BUSINESS SKILLS The skills and knowledge you need to make an impact on a business level To join us at this level, you need to know our industry, so you should have a good understanding of UK IT and telecommunications markets. Good links within the public sector and enterprise account management experience are also essential. And, on top of that, you should be used to building relationships, so they boost business opportunities. Sales Operations demands a particular skillset that includes tenacity and attention to detail. We’re looking for the ability to see tasks through to completion while following processes and managing multiple work streams. As well as discipline and dedication, you’ll need the confidence and communication skills to defuse conflict and challenge others in a constructive way.
