In our pursuit of positively transforming the social-emotional well-being of 100 million children annually by 2028, Committee for Children is looking for an experienced government affairs associate to join our team! In this role, you will advance and coordinate advocacy campaigns and opportunities on state and federal levels to further Committee for Children's policy priorities relating to social-emotional learning, child protection, and bullying prevention. Primary Responsibilities Include Execute advocacy campaigns Working with colleagues to assist in executing issue-based campaigns and coalition involvement across multiple jurisdictions Engage and coordinate stakeholders and legislators regarding letters of support, bill amendments, action alerts, and other advocacy-related efforts Work with the policy & advocacy team, internal departments, legislators, lobbyists, advocates, and other stakeholders to advance policy priorities through advocacy efforts Strategize across departments to acquire and cultivate advocates Support development of key messaging in advocacy efforts Organize logistics of and participate in advocacy events (i.e., advocacy days, school tours, congressional briefings, etc.) Present on policy priorities, or other topics as appropriate, at conferences, webinars, or briefings Coordinate and engage law/policymakers, advocates, and other key players Identify, connect with, and work with diverse and mission-aligned partners and advocates Maintain and strengthen relationships with legislator offices, partner organizations, advocates, stakeholders, and the public Represent Committee for Children at legislative committee meetings, public meetings, relevant hearings, and coalition meetings Synthesize and present information gathered from coordination and engagement efforts to inform advocacy efforts Qualifications Minimum of three years' experience in law/policymaking and bachelor's degree in political science, public affairs, social sciences or related field; OR minimum of one year of law/policymaking experience and a master's degree in those fields Demonstrable experience in state- or federal-level legislative and/or advocacy efforts Strong relationship-management skills to effectively work with legislators, stakeholders, advocates, and internal teams of various backgrounds Demonstrable experience building effective alliances with a proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to explain complex information clearly, concisely, and convincingly Excellent public speaking and presentation skills Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Knowledge of state and federal legislative processes and procedures Highly preferred: Experience in the law/policymaking process focused on issues involving youth, especially in disadvantaged and marginalized communities Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge and understanding of the issues and policies surrounding access, equity, diversity, and inclusion, especially as those pertain to young people Knowledge and understanding of law/policymaking processes and politics Knowledge and understanding of issues and policies affecting young people Comfortable with complex, multifaceted projects Responsive with time management skills Organized and able to turn around quality deliverables as needed Proactive, mission-driven, and self-motivated Resourceful and strategic problem solver Ability to take initiative with leadership capabilities Comfortable working in an open office environment Organization-wide Essential Functions Demonstrate a customer service focus Demonstrate a commitment to CFC values Commitment to ongoing growth and development; willingness to actively participate in organization-wide learning, including a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion Maintain regular and predictable attendance of set work schedule Working Environment This position is in an open office environment with heavy computer use Occasional travel is required Position is located in our Seattle offices The noise level in the office environment is moderate This position is full time (Monday through Friday) Eligible to work remotely 20% of the time Must have access to reliable transportation About Committee for Children For over 40 years, Committee for Children has been helping children learn, grow, and thrive by teaching them how to understand emotions, build meaningful relationships, and resolve conflicts.
