FLSA STATUS: Exempt POSITION TYPE: Full-Time, Benefit-Eligible DEPARTMENT: Business Office RESPONSIBLE TO: Associate Controller ESTIMATED CLOSING DATE: Until Filled POSITION SUMMARY The Accounting Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. This position provides oversight for the general ledger, grant and CWI Foundation accounting functions and is responsible for managing direct report to ensure work is completed timely and accurately. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end closing, audit preparation and forecast activities. Additionally, this position works with the Associate Controller to provide the CWI Board of Trustees, Officers, and college department personnel with timely and accurate financial information. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure. Review, monitor and analyze accounting teamwork and evaluate more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Oversee the general ledger, grant accounting and CWI Foundation accounting to ensure all deadlines are met including accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close and reporting of financial information. Research technical accounting issues ensuring compliance and provide guidance related to accounting standards and pronouncements, including GAAP, GASB and FASB. Collaborate with the other Business Office managers to set and support overall department goals and objectives. Compile and analyze accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness. Responsible for ensuring all system patches are and upgrades are tested before implementation and analyze results to determine the impact on the financial system. Respond to inquiries regarding financial results as well as develop and prepare monthly financial and ad hoc reports for internal and external customers. Responsible to hire, schedule, supervise, train, evaluate performance, and support professional growth of assigned staff. Guide employees through mentoring and corrective action as needed. Provide ongoing training of accounting process and procedures to new and existing staff to ensure accurate and consistent processing of financial information and reports. Coordinate the annual audit as well as assist with the preparation of documents, writing of footnotes and creation of financial reports. Perform complex general ledger account reconciliations and analysis on a timely basis. Prepare reconciling and reoccurring journal entries. Develop, recommend and maintain financial policies and procedures Conveys by words and actions the values expected by CWI. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, and five years of experience including account reconciliation, financial analysis, and assisting with year-end audit. Prior experience managing professional level staff demonstrating strong leadership and development skills to build and maintain an effective team. Five years’ experience preferred. Possess an in-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Financial Accounting Standards Board and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (FASB/GASB), and federal compliance requirements. Must be detail-oriented, have the ability to maintain composure under pressure and be able to prioritize multiple tasks. Demonstrated analytical ability and strong organizational and communication skills. Must be flexible and willing to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. Prior work experience in higher education preferred.
