It will be the biggest, most sustainable and high-tech depot in the Co-op network. We’re recruiting for Biggleswade right now, and over the next few months we'll be looking for operational leaders in transport and warehousing, as well as other specialist colleagues to help us get the site up and running. We’ll be recruiting lots of drivers and warehouse operatives from September onwards. It really is an exciting time to join a brand new site, and support the growth of our stores across the South and South East. Diverse and inclusive workplace Here at the Co-op we’re committed to promoting equality and preventing discrimination at work. Our diversity and inclusion goals In 2018, we decided to rethink our approach to diversity and inclusion. We created a clear strategy which is focused on three core priorities: *\tInclusive leadership – equipping our 5000 leaders with the knowledge, skills and behaviours to lead diverse teams more inclusively. *\tAttracting and engaging our colleagues better – ensuring our people processes (recruitment, talent, access to learning and development) are as free from bias as possible. *\tInclusive culture – building awareness and educating our 65,000 colleagues about the importance of diversity and inclusion and celebrating what makes us all different. We are making great progress, but we have more to do: Over the last 2 years, we’ve created a movement of over 200 passionate inclusion pioneers and colleague networks – people who help to advocate, share and embed the work we are doing at a local level. We’ve also worked with our recruitment team to redesign our recruitment process to make sure that we’re bringing more diverse talent into the organisation. We’re really proud to say that we have created a 50/50 balance of male and female applicants for new hires and have increased our diversity across other demographics by 30%. By auditing the rest of our people processes, we’ve been able to identify where bias can occur, and engaged with over 250 colleagues in hackathons and workshops to help us identify what we needed to do differently to fix some of the issues. We now have a comprehensive programme of work to make our people processes and colleagues’ experiences more inclusive. Co-op colleague networks As a national business, it’s common sense that we celebrate the diversity of our millions of customers and our tens of thousands of colleagues. The Co-op has a long tradition of supporting diversity in our workplace and in our wider Co-op membership. Through our colleague networks, we’re championing best practice and a culture of fairness and equality. That’s the right thing to do and it makes good business sense too. I’m proud that we’re putting these issues at the forefront of our thinking and that our work is being recognised nationally. Steve Murrells - Chief Executive Officer https://jobs.coop.co.uk/diversity-inclusion We're creating work ready communities As a community based employer, we recognise the importance of creating work ready communities. By developing employability skills, creating meaningful experiences and providing employment for individuals furthest away from work we’re able to make a positive impact on unemployment and raise aspirations within our communities, all whilst helping address diversity imbalances and skills shortages across Co-op. We call this Community Resourcing, the way in which we strengthen our Co-op and our communities through employability. To help deliver positive change we follow a 4 step model within which many of our programmes and partnerships are linked to: Raise awareness of careers and educate about the ‘world of work’ Create meaningful experiences of the workplace Develop quality and future fit employability skills Enable access to fair and sustainable employment Through strategic and local partnerships with organisations like Barclays Connect With Work, The Princes Trust and Co-op Academies Trust, we’re able to have reach and impact across the UK but also focus on those who need support the most. This way we’re able to achieve wider and more sustained impact as we are closer to our community strategy but also making positive progress against some of the biggest challenges facing our business. We're owned by our members We're different at Co-op. We're not owned by 1 person or a group of executives. We're owned by over 4 million members, and thanks to them we gave £19 million to local causes last autumn. As well as having clear financial and operational objectives and employing nearly 70,000 people, we’re a recognised leader for our social goals and community-led programmes. We exist to meet members’ needs and stand up for the things they believe in. So, the more successful we are, the more we can give back to you and your local community. That’s why we’re different.
