AVP NICO Claim-CLA0002F1 Description Job Summary Officer position responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the Loss Portfolio Agreement (LPT), for asbestos and legacy environmental claims, with National Indemnity Company (NICO). Pursuant to the LPT, NICO serves as claims adjuster (defense, indemnity and coverage counsel fees) for covered A&E claims. This role is on point for overseeing and resolving complex claim and legal issues as well as being a significant contributor to developing and implementing the long term strategic plan in accordance with the company’s strategic priorities. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines: Develops and implements strategic objectives with substantial impact on short and long-term success by overseeing the LPT asset, ensuring that NICO effectively and efficiently handles the book of A&E claims and is compliant with all contractual obligations. Provides overall leadership of the LPT asset by collaborating with senior leadership to provide input into the development and implementation of claim policies, business strategies and goals to achieve desired results. Ensures optimal implementation of business strategies by coordinating and collaborating with internal CNA business partners such as Reinsurance, Actuarial, Legal and Finance, and engaging the appropriate resources into both strategic planning as well as day-to-day oversight of applicable claim files, claim trends and legal changes that may impact other relevant business results. Leads, directs and has full management accountability for small staff in area of responsibility with an emphasis on coaching and talent development, communicating, driving a high performance culture, and succession planning in accordance with corporate strategic direction. Operates within established budget by managing expenses and adequately controlling resources to ensure a successful operation, productivity and efficiency standards are achieved. Assesses and improves organizational performance by leveraging systems capabilities, data and metrics to analyze trends and develop insights. Maintains daily oversight of NICO’s claim handling, strategy, financial transactions, reinsurance recoveries and annual reserve reviews. Drives for a superior claim handling, customer experience and continuous improvement through the development and implementation of corporate initiatives involving, processes and technology. Identifies emerging issues and trends that may have substantial impact on CNA claim (management) practices and processes. Champions CNA with an advanced understanding of the company’s differentiating position in the industry, CNA’s products and services, as well as a working knowledge and understanding of competitors’ products and services. Monitors emerging trends by remaining current on industry news and developments within functional area of expertise, sharing information with management, internal and external business partners as appropriate. May perform additional duties as assigned. Reporting Relationship Typically VP and above Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles of A&E claims. Possesses in-depth technical knowledge of claim theories and practices, insurance industry products and operations and a working knowledge of finance and accounting functions. Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of external and/or internal business partners within scope of responsibility, team and/or matrix environment. Experience with and ability to understand and interpret LPT contract. Leadership and management skills demonstrating integrity and professionalism. Ability to drive results by identifying, and complex resolving problems within scope of responsibility. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree with JD preferred Typically a minimum of 10 years claims experience, with five years management experience. Applicable certifications preferred.
