The City of Wetaskiwin is seeking a Transportation Operator I term position to support our team. Working under the direction of the Operator in Charge, the ideal candidate will perform a variety of tasks to support the operation and maintenance of City transportation infrastructure including: traffic signals, road repair, signs and road markings. You enjoy working outdoors in all weather. You want to gain work experience in a municipality and the maintenance of roadways. Responsibilities Provide excellent customer service. Operate equipment such as sweepers, skid steers, line painters, pavement repair units and a variety of hand tools. Repair and construction of streets, curbs and sidewalks. Cleaning and maintenance of storm drainage basins. Perform Vegetation brushing, ditching & grass cutting. Clean and complete minor repairs to machinery and equipment. Operate small equipment. Keep records and inventory. Follow all health and safety policies and procedures at all times. Ensure public safety while flagging or performing other duties around traffic and work sites. Ability to work weekends, evenings and be available for stand-by duties and respond within 30 minutes of an emergency call. Additional duties and special projects as required. Education and Qualifications Grade 12 or equivalent. Valid class 5 Alberta Driver’s license and working towards a class 3Q license. Certified competent in the operation of skid steer, bucket truck and street sweeper; loader operation preferred. Temporary Work Zone Safety, fall arrest, defensive driving, ground disturbance and Flag person certifications preferred. Working toward class 3Q license Supply criminal records check/drivers abstract. Ability of perform all functions of the job and can lift up to 45 pounds. Can operate small equipment and has experience with various hand held tools. Ability to work outdoors for extended period of time under all weather conditions and work evenings and weekends.
