SALARY RANGE $22.23 - $24.70 Eligibility list will be maintained for up to six months. DEFINITION: Under general direction of the Office of the City Manager the Government and Foreign Affairs Coordinator oversees an organization's policies and objectives involving affairs of local, state, federal, and foreign governments and agencies. Develops and maintains relationships with government, associated authorities, and committees. Represents and protects City of San Luis and community interests in legislative and political arenas. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties listed below represent the various types of work that may be performed. Government and Foreign Affairs Coordinator assists in the establishment of city strategies, policies and plans, which align with government laws, regulations, and standards. Leads analysis of proposed legislative actions, determines the potential impact on the city and develops appropriate responses. Monitors legislative and regulatory activities, informs city administration, leadership, and appropriate authorities regarding new legislation, actions, and events. Promotes city's image, branding and community presence. Coordinates work and projects with other city departments within the organization. May coordinate staff, contractors, and vendors' activities. Media experience (TV, radio, advertising, press releases, social media, etc.) Performs other related duties as assigned. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Knowledge of: Legislative system, local, state, federal, and foreign government laws, regulations, and ordinances. Understanding of government lobbying and promoting of city interests. Rules, regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to domestic and foreign policies, laws, customs, and inter-governmental relations. Basic principles of strategic planning, legislative and political processes. Ability to: Organizing, prioritizing, and coordinating work activities, events, and government relationship. Compiling information, analyzing new legislations, and writing reports. Following written and oral instructions in English. Communicating fluently and effectively both verbally and in writing in English, including spelling grammar, punctuation, and composition. Work Environment: The employee works in an office environment. Certain positions within the classification may require availability to work flexible or irregular schedules, including evenings, nights or weekends. TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Public administrations, marketing, business, communications, or closely related field and four (4) years of experience in public relations, government relations, foreign relations or communication fields, or equivalent combination of education and experience that result in successful performance of the job. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: A valid Arizona driver license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment. Special Requirements: Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Residency within 25 miles of San Luis and within the US required, San Luis residency preferred. Passing polygraph examination may be required according City of San Luis policies.
