Crime Analysts perform tactical, strategic, operational, and administrative crime analysis within the Police Department’s Crime Analysis and Research Unit, and they work closely with the officer analysts assigned to the unit. Responsibilities include responding to requests for information from a variety of types of customers, conducting statistical analyses, detecting crime series/patterns, forecasting crime trends, identifying suspect/crime relationships, developing investigative leads, and utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for spatial analysis of crime trends. Crime Analysts also prepare comprehensive written reports and deliver oral presentations on research findings, and provide training on crime analysis and crime mapping processes. Some crime analyst positions in the unit supervise police statistical research aide positions, and all crime analyst positons provide guidance to other individuals such as interns and volunteers who help in the unit. This recruitment and any interview process as a result of this recruitment may be used by multiple hiring managers and multiple departments throughout the City to fill any related current or future vacancies; other recruitments and appropriate eligible lists may also be considered. IDEAL CANDIDATE Familiar with general crime analysis principles, research methodology, and statistical analysis techniques. Advanced computer skills including: Experience using Microsoft Office applications, particularly MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook. Experience using SAP Crystal Reports software. Experience using ESRI ArcGIS or other GIS mapping software. Experience researching and analyzing data in various formats and database environments; Knowledge of Oracle/SQL language a plus. Familiarity working with law enforcement records management system (RMS) and computer aided dispatch (CAD) data. Familiarity with the intelligence process and methodologies including, but not limited to, link analysis, telephone toll analysis, event timeline reporting, and cell phone mapping. Familiarity with crime classification criteria such as Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR), Arizona Revised Statutes (ARS), and National Incident-Based Reporting Systems (NIBRS). SALARY $50,066 - $76,211 annually. For more details, visit: Unit 7 Benefits MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Two years of experience with a military or law enforcement agency compiling data, analyzing findings and writing reports that indicate relationships between criminal elements and/or criminal enterprises. Bachelor's degree in public or business administration or criminal justice or related field. Specific crime analysis training from an accredited organization such as the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA), the Arizona Association of Crime Analysts (AACA), or another reputable crime analysis training. One year of training may be substituted for up to one year of work experience or education. Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required. Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a team environment. Previous training or teaching experience. Report writing experience and strong written and oral communication skills.
