Definition Under direction, is responsible for planning, coordinating, promoting, and evaluating programs, projects, activities, and/or special events related to cultural arts; performs related duties as required. Examples of Work (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.) Organizes, coordinates, schedules, and monitors cultural arts activities and special events such as exhibits, festivals, lectures, concerts, theatrical performances, and classes; Serves as a liaison to various groups, committees, commissions, and bureaus regarding cultural arts programming and special events; facilitates conversations between artists and cultural arts programming participants or general art enthusiasts in public meetings, workshops, or activities; Researches, identifies, and develops marketing and publicity plans and strategies; prepares press releases, newsletters, fliers, pamphlets, public service announcements, and maintains contact with various news media personnel to promote cultural arts activities and special events; Coordinates the use of department, program, event, and sponsor branding and event trademarks; Develops systems for evaluating cultural arts programs, projects, and special events; monitors activities and prepares periodic progress summaries; Researches and develops concepts for new cultural arts programs, projects, and special events and submits for appropriate approvals; Researches, reviews, and selects artists and/or performers in various cultural arts mediums to participate in activities and events; participates in the review and negotiation of artists' contracts and riders; Attends various meetings and participates on boards, committees, and/or commissions to plan and coordinate cultural arts programming and/or special events; Prepares various reports, financial summaries, and correspondence; maintains records as required; Oversees the preparation of recreation and park facilities for use during special events; coordinates the clean-up and necessary maintenance of facilities following events; Recruits, oversees, and trains volunteers and contract staff involved in cultural arts programs, activities, projects, or special events; Coordinates the provision of necessary City services for special events; negotiates, schedules, and monitors the work of contract personnel and service providers; Secures funding and in-kind contributions for cultural arts programs, special events, projects, and activities; May assist in the preparation of grant applications, budget proposals, and program descriptions for grants; May project and/or determine costs for the implementation of cultural arts programs, projects, or special events. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a bachelor's degree and two (2) years' experience planning, coordinating, or promoting cultural arts programs or special events. Substitution(s): Additional experience as stated may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the required education on a year-for-year basis. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license. You MUST attach official documentation of your degree or coursework to your application. If you do not attach appropriate documentation, your application will be rejected. Test/Job Contact Information QUALIFYING NONCOMPETITIVE EXAMINATION ANNOUNCEMENT: The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create a NEW, QUALIFYING NONCOMPETITIVE, eligible list for this classification and will replace the names of applicants on the current eligible list. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. Questions regarding this process can be directed to the Applicant and Employees Services Unit at (614) 645-8301. The examination process will consist of a multiple-choice exam weighted 60% (55 questions) covering reading comprehension, logic and reasoning, problem sensitivity, and public relations/communications; and an experience evaluation weighted 40%. The exam is expected to be administered in April 2020. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time. All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test. For any position within the Division of Police, the hiring process will also include the completion of an extensive personal history questionnaire and a polygraph examination.
