SCOPE OF POSITION Monitors routine operations of chemical processing units to assure compliance with established operating procedures. If anomalies are detected, troubleshoot and respond as necessary to provide guidance in correction of the problems. Revise or develop new procedures as required and provide training to personnel on their implementation. Provide advanced process and or mechanical engineering technical expertise and advice to a team of 40+ Plant Operators on a daily basis. Assist with development of safe isolation and preparation plans to take equipment offline and develop workarounds as required to keep plant operating safely while equipment is out of service. Observe plant areas for opportunities for improvement through technical, analytical tools and prepare technical reports to management including recommendations for modifications. Implement changes in a safe and documented manner using proper Management of Change procedures. Manage operating costs and drive reductions and optimizations where possible. Participate in problem solving and/or goal setting activities of Operations department as circumstances warrant, providing assistance and expertise to identify root causes and resolve technical issues. Ensure that Operations services and facilities are available to maintenance personnel and outside consultants, engineers, contractors and other personnel and engage with them as issues arise to drive work efficiency. RESPONSIBILITIES Participate in implementing production/processing methods and controls to meet quality & production standards in a safe and cost efficient manner. Work closely with the site's Quality Leader for managing product quality and troubleshooting quality issues. 25% Participate in implementing standards for measuring and reporting operational reliability as a reflection of operational function effectiveness. Drive efficiencies and cost reductions. 20% Lead Operations participation in facility shutdowns. 15% Work closely with maintenance to coordinate equipment outages and repairs. 25% Engineering resource to assure the utilization of proper Process Safety practices (HazOps, What-ifs, Critical Impairment, Car Seal and Alarm Management Programs) on behalf of the Operations department. Participate and provide engineering assistance for incident investigations. 15% REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university with 3-6 years of experience in process, production or industrial engineering. Proficiency in process design, analysis, troubleshooting, and optimization. Experience with process control systems operation, design and or analysis. Good background and knowledge of industrial scale chemical processing equipment. Strong and demonstrated adherence to health and safety policies and regulations. Ability to initiate/monitor/audit site safety in a chemical process environment. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to develop and implement innovative engineered solutions.
