Paired Mentoring Volunteers needed to cover all areas of Cumbria (Barrow / Carlisle / Penrith / Workington). We are currently looking for volunteers to be a part of our exciting new paired mentoring service. We are looking for volunteers to support both male and female service users convicted and/or at risk of committing a sexual offence. This intervention reduces the chances of sexual offending/re-offending by reducing the service user’s social isolation, emotional loneliness and connecting them safely to the community. Pairs of trained volunteers meet with the service user regularly (a couple of hours each week, for up to 6 months). Service users are held to account, whilst also being encouraged to identify and maintain realistic relapse prevention strategies. Service users are provided with support and practical guidance in areas such as developing social skills, finding something positive to do with their time and finding employment or training. Mentors meet weekly for approximately 6 months helping the service user to build their own network so that the mentors are no longer required. All mentors are fully trained and are supervised by professionally trained and supervised specialists. All service users and venues used are fully risk managed by staff. This volunteering opportunity is open to men and women of all ages. We get lots of interest from students, who may be studying related subjects, however we do welcome applications from all ages, (over 21). No experience is necessary, as full training is given, however we do ask that all applicants have a non-judgemental attitude, a mature outlook, and are emotionally resilient.
