Brief Description One Temporary, Full-Time Position (16 month Internship) Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our IS Corporate and ETRM Applications Team. Reporting to the Manager of Business Applications, the IS Intern is accountable for supporting a portfolio of vendor supported applications and custom applications. The scope of work is primarily system support requiring technical expertise to maintain software, to correct incidents and problems, and actively consulting with clients, peers and managers in order to develop technical solutions to business problems within the supported portfolio. There may also be opportunities for developing, enhancing and maintaining applications. The successful candidate is self-directed with the desire and ability to either work independently and in a collaborative environment. Key accountabilities include: Detailed Description · Support moderately complex and diverse set of “commercially off the self” applications, and custom applications that serve all areas in Capital Power. · Provide highly responsive and customer-focused support services for all supported applications. · Complete maintenance of the application functions to ensure reliable and secure performance, including but not limited to applying security patches, implementing version upgrades, modifying and enhancing code and performing on-going data management tasks. · Deliver solutions in a timely manner by overcoming unknowns – independent research or working with the application vendor to deliver results. · Adhere to the processes and best practices in IT such as; change management, source control, support documentation relevant, security and access control · Collaborate with our business areas to understand their requirements and translate them into efficient solutions that provide business value. · Collaborate with managers within IS to gain best practices on supporting applications to increase efficiency. Job Requirements Education: · Student in Computing Science, Computer Engineering, or Management Information Systems. · Preference will be given to those students who are scheduled to complete their 3rd year of education (approx. 80 credits). Experience: · Experience in supporting, developing, and enhancing corporate applications would be an asset but not a requirement · Experience working in a corporate environment would be an asset but not a requirement · Experience with providing end to end solution to resolve application issues. Technical Skills: · Experience in query writing using SQL (or equivalent) against a commercial database such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server or MySQL would be an asset. · Experience in Microsoft. NET C#, Java or object-oriented programming language would be an asset but not a requirement · Experience in writing scripts (VBA, Perl, etc.) would be an asset but not a requirement · Experience with Microsoft SharePoint would be an asset but not a requirement. · Ability to communicate highly technical information in a clear and concise manner to peers and business representatives. · Customer relationship skills, demonstrated responsiveness, analytical thinking, problem solving, and planning skills are required. · System analysis and design experience; specifically, analysis and programming for high availability corporate systems would be an asset but not a requirement.
