BILLING ASSISTANT CONTRIBUTING TO THE CMPA Physician Consulting Services’ core function is to provide members with general medical-legal advice, and assistance in responding to College and hospital matters and legal actions arising from their medical professional work. The department is also responsible for coordinating the council committees related to case management: Case Review Committee, Case Review Committee – Quality Assurance, Extent of Assistance Committee. POSITION OVERVIEW The Billing Assistant coordinates and handles the various invoices and expenses charged to the Association by the law firms and experts working on CMPA medico-legal cases. Key activities include the review, verification, editing and processing of provincial law firm invoices, member and non-member expert accounts, and requests for awards and settlement funds. The work involves identifying the appropriate action as required (payment, rejection, further review or approval etc.) The incumbent reviews and/or updates the PCS file management database to ensure the accuracy of data and correspondence with the law firms. The incumbent also provides information, advice and/or guidance to PCS and law firm staff, as appropriate. POSITION ACTIVITIES Process electronic and manual invoices received from provincial counsel firms. Review, verify and add information for accuracy and identify appropriate action (e.g. payment, rejection, General Counsel review). Update PCS files and database and identify discrepancies related to billing. Review member and non-member expert accounts/invoices and verify correctness and accuracy of information. Process requests for awards and settlement funds and ensure proper coding before sending the request to Finance. Enter new plaintiff law firms and lawyers in PCS database, conducting research to ensure accuracy and avoid duplication. Enter and maintain provincial counsel law firms (firm addresses, lawyer names, billing initials, billing rates etc.) in database. Provide file management advice and guidance relating to billing to PCS and law firm staff. Perform other duties as requested by PCS management. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Diploma or certificate program (2-3 years) in Business Administration and/or Accounting or a relevant field 4-6 years of experience working in an office environment Knowledge of Software applications such as MS Office Familiarity working with document management systems SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels Advanced organizational skills with the ability to multi-task while still maintaining speed, accuracy, and attention to detail Ability to work independently and as a team member Sounds judgment and problem solving skills Ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion Reliability and flexibility POSTING DETAILS This position is classified at Level 5 - salary range is $40,318 to $54,026 annually This posting will close on Wednesday, March 18th at 4:00pm EST Select candidates will be required to complete a skills assessment
