Role and Responsibilities Responsible for the general accounting function, including preparing journal entries, maintaining balance sheet schedules and ledgers and account and bank reconciliations for Calvary Day School and Calvary Baptist Temple. Assisting with monthly closings and account analysis and supporting the Chief Financial Officer in carrying out the responsibilities of the accounting department. 1. Analyze financial transactions and accounts to determine the accuracy and completeness of entries. 2. Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports. 3. Research and respond to accounting inquiries from various personnel. Communicate findings in a clear and concise manner. 4. Develop in-depth working knowledge of all operational and accounting computer software/equipment systems that impact the accounting and financial reporting processes. 5. Ensure that all deadlines are met in accordance with department closing dates. 6. Create journal entries to record the revenues, expenses, tax provisions, and quarterly dividends of certain company subsidiaries. 7. Prepare monthly cash reconciliations and record-related journal entries. 8. Prepare various other monthly account reconciliations, which may include receivables, payables, accrued expenses, and other accounts. This responsibility includes any daily or weekly processes that lead to the overall reconciliation of the monthly activity. 9. Develop and maintain an accounting department that aligns with our mission of ensuring proper financial stewardship, the accuracy of transaction coding, timely recording, and reporting of fund and inter-fund transactions. 10. Establish a systematic approach to meeting monthly financial reporting deadlines. 11. Other special projects, reports, tasks, and financial assessments as assigned by the CFO such as: Monthly closings and preparation of monthly financial statements Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts Crate and proof monthly financial reports Prepare analysis of accounts as requested Assist with year-end closings Assist in preparing budgets and forecasts Assist with payroll administration Monitor and resolve bank issues including fee anomalies and check differences Account/Bank reconciliations Review and process expense reports Assist with preparation and coordination of the audit process Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures Skills and Abilities Tracking Budget Expenses, Attention to Detail, Thoroughness, Organization, Analyzing Information, Accounting, Vendor Relationships, PC Proficiency, Data Entry Skills, General Math Skills Must have strong work ethics, be well organized and a self-starter Must be highly skilled in dealing with financial and numeric data, including the use of Excel Spreadsheets, Word, and 10-key by touch. ACS or knowledge of relevant accounting software experience a plus. Must have excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures. Strong problem-solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis and multi-tasking skills Thorough knowledge of applicable accounts payable/general ledger systems and procedures, financial chart of accounts and corporate procedures Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing Ability to interact with employees and vendors in a professional manner Ability to perform mathematical computations such as percentages, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division quickly and accurately Education and Certification Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA Preferred) Knowledge of accounting principles and practices Knowledge of finance principles Knowledge of financial reporting Knowledge of local, state and federal laws regarding accounting, finances, and taxation Technical accounting skills Previous experience of general accounting Proficiency in relevant accounting software
