We’re seeking a driven law student to join our North American Legal team for an internship this summer. This position will be based in Houston, Texas and focus exclusively on projects related to CNOOC International's U.S. onshore assets, which consist of approximately 3,500 wells and 250,000 net acres across the Eagle Ford and Niobrara shale plays. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Legal, Marketing & US Shale, the intern will contribute to the legal department's efforts in a variety of areas and must produce high-quality work in a flexible, fast paced environment. The Intern will need to demonstrate that he/she has sound legal judgement, can learn quickly, and communicate effectively across all levels. During your work term, we will push you to be your best by exposing you to challenging projects and giving you the opportunity to take ownership of your work term. You will gain practical experience, develop technical skills to complement your academic learning, and gain exposure to future opportunities at our company. To succeed, you’ll need to cultivate and communicate a clear vision and set goals for yourself, whilst also juggling individual country specific targets. Some of the key responsibilities of the Legal Summer Student will be: Support the in-house legal team in a variety of projects related to litigation and disputes; Initial review of various legal documents, including complaints, correspondence, and oil & gas leases – identify issues, work with relevant internal stakeholders to gather or vet underlying land, financial, and technical data, as necessary; Create, review, analyze, and maintain legal and other business documents; Assist in populating and maintaining the legal department’s document, matter, and legal hold management systems; Other duties as assigned. Who are we looking for? Successful candidates will not only have a strong academic background, but also excellent communication skills, the ability to work in a team, a flexible attitude and the drive and desire to deliver results. Beyond that, we are interested in hearing from candidates with the following: Eligible to work in the United States Demonstrated interest in oil and gas law Strong desire to learn and apply this knowledge across varying situations Applicants must have the ability to: work in a fast paced environment and successfully manage frequent changes in priorities, deadlines, and workload; effectively prioritize multiple projects with demanding deadlines while working autonomously; identify opportunities to assume new responsibilities and/or improve current processes; and concisely and professionally communicate complex legal and commercial issues to CNOOC International's legal team and business clients. Strong academic credentials in Oil & Gas, Civil Procedure, Contracts, and LRW/LSS.
