CNA Hardy is looking for an underwriter to work in our Specialty department. The position is positioned in the Copenhagen office to underwrite and service Specialty risks across Scandinavia. You’ll be working in a smaller ambitious team in Copenhagen and with international team across Europe. Part of the job is to service brokers across Scandinavia. Training will be provided by the organization and our senior specialists in the areas within the job that you are not currently familiar with or that can be improved. Your ability and eagerness to take on this learning and utilize it in your work is a key feature. The key areas within Specialty that you will be working with is Cyber and Professional Liability and to some degree Directors and Officer’s Liability Insurance. Knowledge in one or more products is an advantage. Key Responsibilities Reviews applications and financial requirements for risks requiring technical underwriting skills. Determines acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards. Recommends appropriate pricing and coverage modifications or enhancements for risks after complete analysis and consideration of applicant documentation, business factors and competitive situations. Prepares quotations and answers questions from Brokers, internal and external contacts and escalates issues as necessary. Prepares written communications on adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, status and declinations. Verbally notifies Brokers of decisions where appropriate in order to ensure clear understanding of the decision. Analyses quality, quantity, and profitability of risks underwritten and prepares reports for management review. May assist in marketing products and services through the brokerage community and makes field visits across our Scandinavian market. Participate in products development including amendning wordings and proposal forms etc. Develops and maintains positive Broker relationships. Keeps current on state/territory issues, regulations and trends. Works with more senior underwriters or management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handling. Develop proficiency in all relevant CNA systems. Booking and issuing of policies. May update the underwriting systems. Provide input to make processes more efficient, product development or strategic initiatives. May perform additional duties as assigned. Involve some travel – up to approx. 15-30 days a year. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Circa 2-5 years experience of underwriting specialty products (Cyber/Tech, Professional Liability, D&O) Knowledge of underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices, especially related to Cyber and Professional Liability. Developing technical expertise and negotiation skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills (in English and “Scandinavian”) Ability to effectively interact with peer level CNA internal and external business partners both locally and internationally. Ability to work independently. Strong analytical and problem solving skills Ability to exercise independent judgment and make sound business decisions effectively. Ability to take on new learning. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software. Interest for and understanding for how IT in general works is a benefit for the Cyber underwriting. Your background could be Cand.merc.jur, Cand.jur or Forsikringsakademiet. Positive “can do” mentality and open to new learning.
