The UK Atomic Energy Authority have an excellent opportunity for a nuclear radiation analyst to join their team within the Applied Radiation Technology Group, part of the Technology department. The Technology Department are responsible for applied science based, multi-disciplinary programmes relating to fusion power plant development, strategy development and emerging technology. Within this department the Applied Radiation Technology group are responsible for radiation transport and activation calculations to ascertain the nuclear environment and material responses in and around fusion devices, including JET, ITER and DEMO. The job-holder`s key accountabilities/responsibilities will include Participate in related work to support projects delivery, including producing analysis models using CAD to MCNP conversion and simplification tools and methods, and conducting nuclear transport and activation simulations using nuclear analysis tools, such as MCNP and FISPACT-II Conduct programming and code development supporting nuclear radiation simulations for a variety of fusion devices such as JET, ITER and DEMO Participate in related work and support project managers to deliver projects on time and to budget, such as carrying out simulations and writing technical reports Present technical work to project board, internal and external clients, at conferences and journal publications Interact with colleagues and experts in other scientific fields and liaise with large international organisations At UKAEA we strive to make everyone feel welcome and fully supported. Knowledge skills and experience Essential A degree or equivalent in a relevant physics, engineering or computer science, or equivalent subject Knowledge and experience with scientific programming and scripting Knowledge and experience of Linux operating systems, parallel computing (e.g. MPI and OpenMP) and high-performance computing Knowledge and experience with nuclear physics and magnetic confinement fusion Knowledge and experience with the use of radiation transport codes, such as MCNP, and inventory codes, such as FISPACT-II Good interpersonal skills Desirable Knowledge of Fortran 90 or later Knowledge of Python Scripting Track record in delivering projects with time constraints is desirable Special requirements: Please note all employees working at the UK Atomic Energy Authority will be required to complete an online Disclosure Certificate application as part of their clearance - The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks will show the details of all current criminal convictions (convictions considered unspent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974) or will confirm that there are no such convictions.
